I can understand you may be bothered by the high ABV, but I think every whiskey deserves to be tasted at least one time at its full strength.

I'm still doing it but may stop soon as it burns the hell out of my tastes buds and tongue. I'm finding diluting to apr. 100 proof offers me the best flavor and tasting of the whiskey!............cheers!

With the way that Horst swishes the whiskey, a little dilution is needed I think or else he would burn out his taste buds.

A taste or two at full strength and then sipping diluted sounds reasonable.

I drank batch 65 at full strength , a couple of drams, and I thought it was magnificent! I will try adding a little water to see how it opens up.

So the story goes the inspiration for this whisky was found in a time capsule, renovations were being done at their distillery when they found a couple bottles of this under one of the corner stones for the wall. The men doing the work were quick to pass the bottles around but could not finish them before the master distiller was able to rescue what was left. This A'bunadh is Aberlour's attempt to recreate this whisky.

This is one of my favour under AU$150, I really love this strong and also complex taste, tried batch 66 and 67, I love the numbness feeling I get after drinking this, brilliant, I am a big fan of cast strength , reminds me of Persian drink we used to have back home which started from 55 ABV going up to 70.
@BigMac22224 жыл бұрын
I will also say I don't agree with Horst when it comes to "whisky is undrinkable" above 50% ABV, I very much enjoyed this bottle as it was opened, full of plum and raisin and enjoyable at every sip.

Glenfarclas 105 (10 YO) is 60 ABV so I guess it's possible to have high ABV and considerable age. Depends on casks. The 20YO is also 60%.
@Erazus44 жыл бұрын
The same goes for many of the high-end Glendronachs. All this talk of the angles share does not really make sense for 20+ Year olds that have just around 60% ABV.

Fred; My comment below said I bought batch 52. After all of the good things I read about Aberlour A'bundadh I had to go out and buy it. I read pros and cons about different batches and batch 52 was a good one. What an interesting scotch. Try neat first, but then you will need to add water. I ended up adding up to 50% water and it tasted great. I would buy again but this bottle will last due to adding water. Good luck.

@@phatbastard0alkaline It was good. We were expecting it to be very "hot" due to the high abv, which thankfully it wasn't. Very complex and rich. The finish was looong, although a tad bitter. Very luxurious the bottle will last me a long time.

I find when you are getting first fill oloroso casks no age is really needed infact if they'd have left it for 10+ years I think it would have been too sherried.Now I have 2 leters of this stuff both from batch 49 and 50 sitting in a small 2 leter American white oak cask...only been a few months going to wait until at least Christmas to try it

Doesn't the abv get higher not lower with age? The longer its in a cask and evaporates water out out of the spirit thus the abv will rise, correct?
@Ech0Sierra10 жыл бұрын
Alcohol evaporates from a cask, not the water. Most water in spirits is added during the course of bottling, anyway.
@Whiskycom10 жыл бұрын
Nice discussion. Both water and alcohol evaporate in a relation to each other. As alcohol has a lower boiling point (78°C) it evaporates normally faster than the water from the whisky. So the strength in the cask is reduced. But as both whisky and the cask are natural products we have a lot of variation in this process. To even this out the water is added during the bottling process.
