This video changed my entire perception of what is to enjoy alcoholic beverages, thank you Horst.

As a new whisky enthusiast, what I've learned from this video is more valuable than anything provided elsewhere. In another hobby of mine, horology (the 16610 is an excellent choice, by the way), the excitement of a new timepiece is difficult to suppress; I want to take it everywhere, look at it repeatedly and play with its functions for no reason. With whisky, I want to try every new bottle I buy, savoring the taste again and again, comparing two or three at once. The feeling is typical of the desires of a new passion or pastime. It's a big bonus to learn these lessons early in the hobby. It helps that Horst Luening seems very affable. Thank you to Mr. Luening and whisky.com; I've subscribed and am slowly (everything in moderation, of course) going through the catalogue of videos.

Thank you. horology. Is that with vintage watches or do all watches count?
@arthurmontiel26659 жыл бұрын
Whisky.com All watches count, from a Lange & Sohne Grand Complication all the way to a lowly vintage Casio calculator watch. Cheers, Mr. Luening.

My deepest respect to Horst. I have not come across any Whisky channel that has taken the care and trouble to explain and warn of the the dangers of becoming addicted to whisky if we do not put down a framework to control this hobby. Sensible and practical advise for anyone who wants to get the most enjoyment from this wonderful hobby in a safe way. "Tasting, not drinking" I shall never forget this. Thank you, Horst.

Excellent video, thanks. I am slowly changing from a whiskey drinker to a whiskey taster. My collection has changed from a fresh bottle of Wild Turkey every week to 6 or 7 high-end scotches and bourbons that I will savour for the rest of the year I think.

Thank you so much for this awesome video. Such wiseness and simplicity. It's true - whisky is not fun if you are drinking... the fun is in the savoring, tasting and of course sharing with friends. That's what I do.

This video was completely unexpected and yet it was probably the best advice one could give to a whisky beginner. Thank you for this!

5 years later I'm watching this video and I have to say, I agree with every word... You're tasting whiskey, not drinking it... Beer 🍻😂, I'm not so sure as there's less alcohol in it but yes, I agree you should have a glass of water with beer or any beverage - I must get back into this habit. Good words of advice Horst! 😃👍🏼 Keep it up.

Oh Horst, you should try some craft beers, so much flavours in them!
@haddadin19868 жыл бұрын
Is it true that we dont know how the flavors of the whisky come from? How does lets say chocolate develop or dry fruits etc.

I think Horst is the first German I've seen advocate AGAINST drinking beer! I've spent some time in Bavaria, I'm not sure I saw anyone drinking water at all!

If you are tasting a whisky how long does a bottle last for you? Is there a time frame that a bottle should be finished after opening before the whisky is affected by air/opening?

I never knew whisky was intended to be drank straight the only thing I ever thought it was used for was blending in coffee very carefully once in a while - something you did on holidays or especially at Christmas and that. Where this trend of drinking straight spirits comes from I am not sure, although Id rather never be chugging them or mixing them with other spirits (some modern bar drinks are too dangerous for their own good)
