Whisky.com reviews the Johnnie Walker Black Label Islay Origin. The Johnnie Walker Black Origins series is a special interpretation among the Black Label bottlings. Only malts from one of the four whiskey regions Lowlands, Speyside, Highlands and Islay were used for each of the four whiskeys. In this way, the bottlings also capture the character of the respective region. Islay Origin is created from single malts from the Islay region, based on whiskeys from Lagavulin and Caol Ila.

Ironically I was sipping the Green Label when this video came out. As a fan of the Green, this I have to say this concept sounds intriguing.

A mixture of Lagavulin and Caol Ila, aged for a minimum of 12 years. I'm not a fan of blends, but this is very tempting indeed.

Islay whiskey is best enjoyed seaside. The sea air just sets off the nose & mouth wash, then the air as you breathe the aftertaste.

I concur with some of the comments below, aside from trying Green Label once (which is pretty good but at the price I'd rather buy Talisker and other malts separately), I haven't really had any interest in JW, however this I would try once, even just to intrigue guests/friends who are into whisky (my recent guests had no idea green label was a thing and all loved it).

Does this contain Talisker like the other Black?

It shouldn't since Talisker isn't from Islay and marketing material does say "Johnnie Walker Black Label Islay Origin is crafted exclusively from a variety of quality single malts from the Islay region." Not that I'd be fussed if it did; Talisker is great and is similar in style to Islay whisky imo.

JW-12 gets its smoky character from (mostly) Coal Ila; not Talisker! 😋

I thought Lagavullin didn't sell any whiskey for blends as supplies for the 16 are so tight? I remember Horst saying that unless I misunderstood. Unless of course they made an exception for Johhny Walker.

Diageo owns Lagavulin, so they can take whatever they like.

Johhny Walker does claim "with whisky from the distilleries of Caol Ila and Lagavulin at its heart." And given that this costs 50% more than Johnny Black here I could believe it.

Here in the Philippines, only 2 are available domestically as planned by JW in their press release. Lowlands and Spey. But somehow I was able to source the Highlands and Islay.

I found this one to be quite unpleasant. Not a nice after taste. I wouldn't recommend, stick to green label.

First time I have seen someone smell and declare 40% Alcohol by volume. He should be smelling drunk drivers and putting his verdict out.

He was talking about the peat smoke in the whisky 40 ppm, not the alcohol content.
