Great video gents. Random thoughts. 1. Balvenie, I’ve turned my back on, other than The Weak of Peat on sale in Alberta. Then it’s a good deal. LCBO is charging way too much. 2. Macallan - I just gave an 18 yo to one of my adult sons. A bit boring to me, so I passed it on. I got it years ago in the US for around 300 CDN. His friends loved it! 3. G&M - I’ve never had a bad one, and I’ve bought many. 4. Bunna 12 - I picked a few times in your questions (and Caol ILA IBs). I opened a bottle of Bunna 12 a few months ago, not having had it in years, and was left wondering “why I am not drinking this regularly?” 5. CDN whisky - great that you guys talk about them. I started my whisky journey on cheap CDN whisky many decades ago, moved on to scotch and Irish, and haven’t come back. I’m motivated. 6. $5000 dollar bottle - I confess I’d buy 2 or 3 great 25-35 yo IBs that would give me more pleasure, especially because the good stuff is only for sharing around, and that makes more to share (opened a 23 yo port Ellen IB this year. Lovely stuff for about $750 CDN at auction). 7. 3 whiskies?. It’d be 3 IBs grabbed from my cabinet (unless I could stop off at BSW first!). Likely all from G&M. A Caol ILA for sure. 8. Post-apocalyptic? Lmao. I’m at about 160 bottles spread around the house, with (only) 30 or so open at a time. My kids will inherit some nice bottles. 9. Death-bed dram - octomore 6.3 I suspect. Go out with a bang! But the list could be long.

I would take my last purchase to a special dinner party: Indri Single Cask for 86 euro's. An unpeated ex-bourbon cask for the Dutch market. It's my first Indri bottle and I'm blown away by the flavours.❤

I would say spring bank 12 CS for my last Dram 2017 batch 15 was the first whiskey that blew my socks off and got me hooked!! cheers fellas Fun Episode!!

The first question about whisky & dinner made me think about pairings. Kinda like wines, some whiskies pair better than others with the meal depending on what's prepared. I’d think that unpeated ex bourbon cask single malts, Irish whiskies and wheated bourbons would go well with fish and perhaps chicken. For beef & pork, maybe the peated single malts and/or sherry-cask aged, and high-rye bourbons?

I’ve tried peat with season and can assure you that works well.

I have to go with a Lagavulin, probably the 25 from 2016.

@ Yes. The Laphroaig Samaroli is so dark and intense you can’t have it every day. You have to spiritually prepare for it haha. The Springbank is so addictive every day every occasion. Merry Christmas fellas! Hope you guys are doing well and family and sipping the best these holidays! Cheers!

A birth year G&M would be an ideal deathbed dram. I just might have to choose the G&M Private Collection Mortlach '78. Rob, I got to taste that Glen Mhor '82 at a Closed Distilleries tasting for KWM's Old and Rare weekend. It was effing lovely!

Awesome stuff! Haven't tried it yet, but everything I've read about it makes me want it as my deathbed whisky--G&M Mr. George Fourth Ed. - 1958 Glen Grant (65 y/o). The reviews that mention the 'wisp of smoke' are what get me. Cheers gents--happy holidays!

Those old Fiddich 15 Distillery Edition bottles were 51%, Bourbon/Sherry as well, I think. They were sub 100 at the LCBO in like 2014? I still have one in the bar somewhere.

Great podcast guys! I have tried that G&M Glen Mhor 1982 and, while it is exquisite, there are similar things to be had for far less money. It's the rarity you're paying for with that one... There is one 50yo you could get for your $5000 budget: the G&M 50 year "Mcphails" secret Speyside....perhaps worth a shot in this highly hypothetical scenario where we're blowing 5 g's on a bottle 😂

Hey Rob you mentioned that the Meikle Toir turbo is the best dram you’ve had. I remember how much you loved the VM Ledaig, would it be better than that one as well. I just got a bottle of the Turbo but haven’t cracked it yet. Cheers🥃
@WhiskyInThe624 күн бұрын
I don’t feel they’re anything alike. Absolutely yes I’d say the turbo wins hands down. Enjoy buddy.

Glen Mhor is pronounced Glen Voar. A bunch of distilleries were closed in 1983, so it's quite likely the surviving distilleries didn't distill much the next year.

Great video. I don't have a ton of travel excl bottles, but I have the Laphroaig PX, and I don't recommend it. My worst Laphroaig yet. Nice nose, but bad palate and finish

I'm curious about high strength Glenfiddichs. Do you plan on making a review for it? It looks like the older bottles of the 18 Vat 04 had the normal Glenfiddich cork with a plastic topper, but it didnt state "Non Chill Filtered" on the label. You must have the new look bottle.

Jeremy will definitely be dying happier in an apocalypse scenario with his bunker stash. I’d probably bunker… 1. 1988 29 YO CS Hogs head matured Glenturret (Signatory vintage bottle) 2.1993 25 YO springbank CS first fill sherry (perfect fifth bottling) 3.1993 Glendronach SC first fill sherry butt CS (Billy walker edition) I’d try to trade some for a 38 YO Bora

Under $100 I’d choose something that I brought back from my travels from countries not associated with making whisky… I have whiskies from Belgium, Holland, Czech Republic, Germany and Bratislava. Asking them to guess the where the whisky is from would be hilarious.

Great vid guys. Early 80's where terrible whisky years. Port Ellen and Brora closed. And a lot of production was stopped and distillery's where mothballed. So 1984 was not a productive whiskyyear i guess. So hard to find those bottles. And i have also more bottles that good last 2 lifetimes.🫣
