Another epic report about an apparently epic distillery too (& indeed what a fantastic location!). With all was told here (nice perspectives about a rather pure and rich distillate & therefore a potentially superior whisky to expect), I really hope they'll let the distillate shine & not bury it under trendy multi-casks finishing like many do, just saying....Thanks for this gorgeous report & yes Emily is cool & I'll check out her Instagram as well. Slainte !

Is Ardnahoe a new make spirit to look out for in the next couple of years Jason? The distillery looks impressive.

I sure hope so

Outside wooden tuns are actually wormtubs, not washbacks, correct?
@WhiskyJason12 жыл бұрын
Worm tubs are a type of condenser. They are a traditional way of turning spirit vapour back into liquid. The lyne arm at the top of the still is connected to a long, coiled copper pipe (worm) that sits in a huge vat of cold water (tub), which is usually outside. As the vapour travels down the worm, it condenses back into liquid form. In a washback the fermentation happens.

@@WhiskyJason1 I asked, as I thought washbacks are always inside while worm tubs are always outside. Apparently they have washbacks outside?
@WhiskyJason12 жыл бұрын
yes - some distilleries do have washbacks outside

Watch the whole video. You're right, they are wormtubs. It doesn't make sense to have washbacks outside, it would be near impossible to control fermentation temperature.
