I think the strings is a nod to like the asian concept of "the red thread of fate" in which certain people are meant to meet each other. So upon me searching that just now, someone wrote on wiki "the gods tie an invisible red cord around the ankles of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way." so yeah we saw that bit in the music video lol

The story is based around the premise of the red string of fate. In Eastern folklore this means the string of fate is tied between two people who are destine to meet and either help each other, be friends or lovers! And the string is said to be unbreakable. In this case Leo and Ravi's strings are tied together and 2 different colors, which is a little bit more than provocative.
