This is what I think of when I think of a love song. It's simple and sweet. It struck me hard when I was very young.

Gives our age away, but this song with Elton Hayes singing brings back a lot of memories of a kinder more gentle Britain..

Beautiful song ...whilst walking our little rescue dog this was sung regularly to her . She has now passed over and the lyrics still apply God Bless All Our Furry Friends waiting for us on Rainbow Bridge.🐶🌈♥️

Such a beautiful song, and sang by a beautiful voice, makes me ache for my husband, gone five years, but I would go to the ends of the earth to find him if I knew he was there.

The first song I ever sang to a girl. Now that's a real memory. I didn't sing it like Elton Hayes, but she seemed to like it.

A piece of nostalgia to enjoy from the early days of TV, when artists had style and respect for their audience. Many thanks for posting,

I used to sing this long ago, but only from memory - and with a slight modification of the lyrics at one point, as the word "gay" has now been hijacked from the English language. Much thanks to the OP for uploading it for us to enjoy again.

Hey, the movie, The Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men which this song comes from is about to be released by Disney April 26, 2009. It's a great flick and hasn't aged a bit.

McCartney says he stole a line of lyrics from this tune for the song "Little Child", but he definitely swiped some of the melody too, like at 1:19. I hear a little of _I'm Happy Just to Dance with You_ in there too, in regards to melody. [2:17 reminds me of another Beatles tune, but I can't quite put my finger on it, yet.]

The 2:17 could be "a world without love"? not performed by the beatles but written by them

I've just read that Lennon and McCartney got inspired by this song to write Little Child. I think they actually borrowed part of the tune and made a nice rocker of it.
@ktcarl8 жыл бұрын
+David Fernández Which part did they borrow I wonder?
@DJFernandezF8 жыл бұрын
+ktcarl Hi there. This is the quote from Paul McCartney (Many Years From Now, Barry Miles) "'I'm so sad and lonely' [from Little Child], that little bit came from a line: 'Whistle, my love, and I will come to thee, I'll always find you'. It's actually not the same tune, but in my mind it was a quote from Elton Hayes." . I think the "I'm so sad and lonely" bit and the "I'll always find you" one are fairly similar indeed.
@robertoponce80773 жыл бұрын
That sort of sincere statatements by Paul in this case, helped to create the aura of trust between The Beatles towards their fans, but also shows how broad are Paul's knowledge in pop music, if he'd had been there when George Harrison recorded "My Sweet Lord" Paul surely would had notice the similirarity with "He's so fine" as he did with John's "Come Together" related to Chuck Berry's rock.
