あいこ前田 No. West Virginia is very hillbilly. It was settled by immigrants primarily from what is now Northern Ireland in the early 1800’s. During the late 1800’s it was exploited for its coal resources (which did not benefit the people who lived there). Today it is one of the poorest states in America. It does have some beautiful natural scenery but many of the people there are very xenophobic and skeptical of outsiders. The ex-French part of America is Louisiana which still has a “Cajun” culture (although the French language is dying in Louisiana, the culture is still very distinct there).

We are looking for a home in the mountains with my aging mother. As soon we found the right location and home for us as a multi generational family, we will bury my father's ashes on the land. I first listened to this in 2018… I was 19 back then and I met this guy who was slightly older than me. He was 25 and we used to be good friends. We were studying at the same university and became work buddies. Every morning I would wake up with this excitement in my stomach because I would be seeing him again. I noticed quickly that I was falling in love with him. He was everything I wasn’t back then but even though we were so different, our souls matched in a way I can’t describe. We used to spend every hour together and I found out my feelings weren’t one-sided. It was such a naive and young love. He showed me this song one time we were driving with my car late at night and I told him I never listened to this. He laughed at me for not knowing about this song. After a very intense but short relationship our ways parted. Every time I listen to this I think of him and wonder what he’s doing. Today, I am the same age he was when he met me. And at 25 years, I still do my rice the way he did and I watch the movies he used to watch. And I laugh at people, who don’t know about this song. Everyone we met along the way give us a piece of themselves that we carry with us forever. Thank you for forming me.
