@@Zumoari I never mentioned Jesus. I do believe in Christ. I said it’s a gift from God because music is special. The emotions you can feel from the melody, instruments and lyrics is something almost surreal. Music can do supernatural things to a persons soul.

Himmel Jungfer the sentiment within the song, longing for the place that you call Home can resonate with anyone. Everyone has somewhere where they call Home, where they’re safe and accepted. Anyone in the world can relate to what John Denver is singing about here, no matter where they are in the world. I’m happy that people all over the world can share this feeling the way we do.

It's the nostalgia of missing your past that John captured in this song. It really doesnt matter where you are from. We can never truly go back home because it will not be the same as when we left, but we long for what we left.

You're absolutely right when you say everyone around the world can relate to it. While visiting Egypt 25 years ago, I stepped into a Cairo hotel elevator and met a young man as well as an older man who wore a traditional djellaba, turban, and long white beard. The younger man seemed a little confused by my western-hemisphere clothing: "You look Arabic, but..." "I'm from the United States." "Oh. Whereabouts?" "West Virginia." The older man then smiled and started singing "Country roads, take me home..." One of my favorite memories!

You're son is a good man and American. I listened to this song in Iraq sometimes it was painful but in a good way. Songs can connect us. No matter what happens this song is a gift that no one can take away. Your son is in my prayers. Anyone who loves this song. Knows what they're trying to make it back to. He'll be ok. Maybe a little jumpier around fireworks.

I never thought I’d share this story publicly but I’m from West Virginia born and raised and I had surgery in Chicago as a freshman in high school and missed a month of school. My roommate in the hospital had a tree fall on him and his friend and was in bad shape. One day a volunteer comes in with a guitar and asked if we’d like to sing and I politely declined. I didn’t know it but my roommate had said something like “I think that guy is missing home and he’s from West Virginia” next thing I know she starts singing Country Roads and I started crying. Later on when I crossed the state line on the way back home I played this and I SOBBED. I knew I missed home but I had no idea just how much I missed it.
