I went to college for a year in West Virginia and this song played constantly. I don't know why, but it makes me tear up every time I hear it. It's the nostalgia of missing your past that John captured in this song. It really doesnt matter where you are from. We can never truly go back home because it will not be the same as when we left, but we long for what we left.
@amoebastampede93572 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right when you say everyone around the world can relate to it. While visiting Egypt 25 years ago, I stepped into a Cairo hotel elevator and met a young man as well as an older man who wore a traditional djellaba, turban, and long white beard. The younger man seemed a little confused by my western-hemisphere clothing: "You look Arabic, but..." "I'm from the United States." "Oh. Whereabouts?" "West Virginia." The older man then smiled and started singing "Country roads, take me home..." One of my favorite memories!

I never thought I’d share this story publicly but I’m from West Virginia born and raised and I had surgery in Chicago as a freshman in high school and missed a month of school. My roommate in the hospital had a tree fall on him and his friend and was in bad shape. One day a volunteer comes in with a guitar and asked if we’d like to sing and I politely declined. I didn’t know it but my roommate had said something like “I think that guy is missing home and he’s from West Virginia” next thing I know she starts singing Country Roads and I started crying. Later on when I crossed the state line on the way back home I played this and I SOBBED. I knew I missed home but I had no idea just how much I missed it.

It is, and it was a huge hit, because everyone has a place in home that doesn't exactly mean West Virginia. That was, and is the beauty of it.

@@iroblix6199 Dude, Mexican National Anthem is just bad, is not about unity or anything, to sum up the meaning is that all Mexicans are and want to fight for the country literally for any reason, of course, give their lives if they have to. I has no beautiful verse you can take as a motivational quote.
