Thank you Andy. Yes they can be great fun and a bit frustrating at times to get the whistle to work with the correct sized openings.

So... not to be that guy but... what was shipped on that pallet prior to you deciding to carve it up and stick it in your mouth? I used to work in shipping and, having 50 gallon drums of random industrial chemicals showing up leaking all over the pallets they were strapped to was a fairly regular thing. It's probably ok to use such scrap wood for coffee tables or whatever... but something you actually put in your mouth... eh... I dunno... just say'n.

Very true, which may also be the case for a lot of wood that we use. There is no saying about the source of a lot of wood unless you fell it and process it yourself. Yes for sure pallet wood would have a greater risk and more than likely contain chemicals to treat it.

Hi there. Thank you for sharing this. I'm interessted in making something like this to call Tawny Owls. The plastic ones don't sound as good as wood. I'm looking for something around 800 Hrtz. Not sure of bore size and length? Just a matter of experimenting I suppose.

I think there are a few factors that would alter the frequency. You could always go down the flute style option rather than a whistle to see what the starting frequency is based on size. Then by drilling a hole in the tube shortens the length of where the air escapes altering the frequency. That hole can also be made bigger to alter it more. Look at something like the native american flute.

Great video! I turned one today after looking at some pictures , didn't really work too well and wasn't sure why so what do we do in this scenario? We turned to KZbin. I'm glad I stumbled across your video, I will have a better informed try tomorrow, thanks for sharing 👍

Thank you. It can be a bit of experimentation to get these to work well. Making different sizes etc. all changes the tune and requires harder blowing.

Interesting! I'm not sure about using pallet wood for this, though. Pallets are exposed to a lot of nasty stuff and I don't think I'd like to put it in my mouth.

Hello Paul, Would you be able to make me custom whistle? Looking for one that is quite and low sounding? I actually just want to hear the articulation of the tongue. Thinking a small whistle maybe a inch or 1.5 inches in length. I have specific size opening. I can share with you.

Hi Carlos, long time since I've made a whistle and they do need a lot of playing around to get the thing to play and then the sizes of the chamber and type of wood all make a difference. Sorry but I wouldn't have the time at the moment to revisit this project.
