can you use photo printing paper instead of regular printer paper inside the box?

I think so, as long as it is white or even light colored.

I think so, but probably have to turn the box sideways to use it.

Can you use another material other than aluminum since I don’t have any 😩
@MS-ld1xj9 ай бұрын
I've heard of people using 3x5 cards or manila folders in a pinch. my understanding is it might not work quite as well, but should do the trick. Maybe try a few hole sizes on different mediums. My understanding is the thinner the material the better, but it must be opaque of course. You also want to be able to create a hole with clean edges.
@MS-ld1xj9 ай бұрын
P.S. you can test by looking at the sun through it before the eclipse -- you don't have to wait until the eclipse to find out what you used doesn't work well

According to what I've just learned by watching other videos and people's comments, if a small hole is poked directly into the cardboard (instead of using foil), the sun's image in the box may have fuzzy edges.(That's what I did instead of the foil) So if you don't have foil, try just poking a clean hole into the box... Or maybe use something else like black paper, dark duct tape, dark thin plastic, thin piece of metal with a hole drilled in it, etc.
@dawneandjohn9 ай бұрын
@@MS-ld1xj Yup... that's what I'm trying out right now. 🥰 Seems to work OK. I made sure the hole has clean edges (I'm using a reg Amazon cardboard box).

What's the purpose of the aluminum foil? Can't you just put a small hole in the cardboard instead? I see everyone using the foil, but nobody explains why to use it.🤔
@pettystazzy56689 ай бұрын
It cooks the cardboard
@MS-ld1xj9 ай бұрын
I THINK foil works well because it's very thin, but opaque. So the thickness of the cardboard will affect the image that you see and you will have a harder time getting clean edges around the hole which will make a "fuzzy" appearance to the image that you see inside. I'm not sure about all that, just my assumptions.
@dawneandjohn9 ай бұрын
@@MS-ld1xj That makes sense. I did find another video (after watching yours) and a commenter said the same thing... cardboard hole could be fuzzy on the edges. I had thought it might be due to the reflective qualities of the foil, but I guess not. 😊

@MS-ld1xj9 ай бұрын
viewing through a normal camera lense, such as a cell phone camera, is not safe either, you need something to filter the light, normal camera lenses do not do that.
