Totally agree with your winner. As a Whitby resident, I would say that Angel Fisheries Harbourside is by far the best in town. Way cheaper than most places and bigger portions too. A lot of the more well-known establishments cut their fish sizes during the summer but still charge full price, but not Angel Fisheries.

Everyone in Whitby goes to trenchers opposite the railway station that's why in summer the queue is HUGE outside. And they are gorgeous

Always good to see someone trying a range of different places in Whitby, I love the place, but only get to spend one week in every year there. I tend to use Silver Street Fisheries - which is a little off the beaten track, but is good value and one of the best (imho) - its also where a few locals took me once long ago, and I have never looked back, although it changed hands during the pandemic, it is still decent. If that is closed, I go to the Fishermans Wife - but only because it is geographically close to where I stay, and not a million miles from Silver Street if it is closed.

If you fancy a trip further North - the only other place I love to go for Fish and Chips outside of Whitby is called "Neptunes" in Seahouses, Northumberland. Although similar to Whitby it has more than one chippy, so you could repeat the experiment there if you fancy a different day out.

Thanks for the tip! Popped into Seahouses after a visit to Bamburgh castle and had fish and chips but cannot remember the name of the place. I Will definitely return though and yes , maybe will do a ‘best of’ in Seahouses 😊

Went in Quayside for fish & chips last year and tried their Irish Curry Sauce….oh my goodness, it was the best chippy curry sauce I’ve ever had.

I do love the north eastern style of cooking fish and chips in beef fat. Can't be bettered. What I do miss, though, is my favourite fish which is Huss. Can't find anywhere except the south.

There is a few old fashioned beef fat chippies in the South East - as lived down here having left the Boro in the 80's for work. But they are few and far between sadly.

@@TheTeessideTravellerUK Also known as 'Rock' in some parts. It's a catshark, I think. Just the one cartilaginous bone down the middle and no pin bones. The texture is firm and not flaky like cod.

@@TheTeessideTravellerUK Yes - same sort of thing. They used to serve that in my local boozer in Bermuda. You're probably ticking all the boxes if you're eating Mahi Mahi in a pub in Bermuda and the waitress is giving you the glad eye. 🙂

i live in welwyn garden city, hertfordshire. i have brought friends up north for walking weekends on the moors. i took them to trenchers once. they all said i am going to get the large fishnchips. get the medium says i. are you sure they replied "we are starving". get the medium i reiterated. grub arrived. silence round the table. full tums and smiling faces. then i took them for a walk round whitby.

Aviod those Polystyrene containers , take you grub up the road and with in ten minutes you will find your F&C have steamed. We stopped going there, its one big tourist trap, and over priced, for small fish etc .
