I am not sure why its called Goth weekend as it seems to be more Victorian and Steampunk weekend .There is little in the way of music concerts unlike the German equivalent festivals . Goth is a music based subculture .No disrespect to Whitby but more music venues would appeal

Thank you for your comment. I had booked a day out in Whitby as there was a Northern Rail sale and had no idea about the event. When I arrived and noticed all the costumes I had a quick look on my phone to see what was going on and 'Whitby Goth Weekend' came up. As you say, there seemed more Victorian costumes than anything else .. I still don't know what steampunk is .. and why many folk had goggles on, who knows ! @@brianmorrison9168 The goggles are an add on from Steam punk trying to depict mad inventors or users of Steam machinery . It got adopted by the Cyber Goth community and now seems to be a fashion add on . Not sure why Steam punk myself .People living in an alternative timeline where steam rules ? Its purely a fashion not a music culture . A lot of Steampunk comes from books and comics as well as an 1980s Role playing game called 1889 an alternative to D&D They do seem to like those hammer horror movies too .

Only snag, I'll not get home until about 8:00pm and my wife and I are going away early the following day ... she's not going to be happy, me editing while she packs our clothing ... if I arrive in Liverpool and there are no trousers.. it'll be her fault😁

You're quite right @thegremlin, "Goth" is a music sub culture that many of the people shown here would'nt be seen dead as avid fans. It would be more appropriate to call this Whitby Victorian Gothic Weekend.
@catsandcrafts171 Жыл бұрын
There is a music festival. Most of the people show are probably not booked to go to the music. It's somehow become warped into this 'show-off' costume party, which is sort of weird. Still, it is what it is. Glad people go and enjoy themselves, but I do miss the days where the actual goths of all types really congregated there. Most have given up on the event. :/

Very nice impromptu capture Brian. I am one of the Halloween Goths, seldom get to Whitby in summer. Of course the evenings are all about live music, fantastic events and awesome friends but what I love about Whitby town in the day on top of the obvious beauty, history and boat rides is the fact that Goths, Steampunks, Cosplayers and locals are all doing the Halloween thing, it's a delightful inclusive safe place to be not to mention family and dog friendly. My favorite town.

I have to say, I'm really sorry, but a lot of those people look very uncomfortable at someone just randomly filming them without permission. I know you did this in all innocence, but it's just not the done thing - there is so much backlash from people who now won't even go to the events because they feel harassed by all the photographers and videographers who don't ask permission, either to take the pics/vids or to publish people online. Clearly there were people or groups who loved being filmed, but there are a lot who don't. It's not all about dressing up for others to capture, for many it's about dressing up for yourself and enjoying a freedom you perhaps don't have in normal life. There are quite a lot of chaps dressed in woman's clothing, etc. Imagine having a job like barrister or teacher or any other number of sensitive jobs and then spotting yourself in the background of someone's video on youtube. If you go again, please, check if your subjects are comfortable with you filming them. x
