Imagine being a young sailor on captain cooks ship, when it’s about to set sail for the pacific, sailing out from Whitby’s harbour, for a long voyage ahead to discover Australia. Shiver my timbers Tim, that sounds like an adventure. Great video Tim. :)

The owners of the "Golden Lion" Irish pub wanted to change the name to something more Irish , but seeing the small street is called "Golden Lion Bank" , the locals were not impressed and successfully challenged the change of name. Great pub , I was there a few days ago 😊 Fabulous weather for a video.

Yes I decided to stay in Whitby in the first week in January making the mistake that it would be peaceful and having the entire town to myself... not the case, it was packed out, more so than in your video. Despite the crowds I had a lovely couple of days visiting the town, as its been a couple of decades since I last visited Whitby, and it has barely changed, which is a plus!

Whitby is also famous for its its lucky duck shop. everytime we visit we make sure we buy 1 of the tiny glass ducks or 1 of the many other animals and objects on sale. you can also watch them being made.

And you traded for the deep dark South and Sheppey - eek. I would trade places and be in Whitby tomorrow, having grown up around Whitby, and professionally stuck in the South East, with experience of work on Sheppey.

Guaranteed to get your quota of steps a day when you go to Whitby! Ruined though by eating copious amounts of chips and ice-cream. Well...you have to!!

St Mary's Church is actually older than the Abbey, and unusually preserves an eighteenth-century interior, with box pews. The wealthy could hire these out, and the pew rents were a useful source of income for the church. And don't forget Lewis Carroll! He also stayed in Whitby, and the poem 'The Walrus and the Carpenter' was inspired by the beaches. 'Such quantities of sand'...

Whitby is super famous. Awful in the summer because it is waaaaay too busy but on a day like you visited, perfect! Winter is when me and my wife make the short drive. Have you still not visited Saltburn? If not you are missing a trick! Its lovely.
