The 50% grey selection technique was something that was quite clever and something I was unaware of. Thanks for that tip.

Thank you George, very useful. I have the mouse rest, with just an ordinary mouse. Very useful indeed.

Bravo!!! The start of most any editing (if needed) is to nail that white balance, without it everything becomes weird going forward. I like that you took the time to show these three methods, there are cases where I could use any one of them. Also, you do have the steady hand of a master. I had followed your advice and got the mouse rest but for me I haven't had much success with the wireless mouse. I need to retry that one, my problem in the past was that I did not have a motherboard that had bluetooth installed and for whatever reason the connection was not good even with the dongle. I am on a upgraded system now so I will have to retry that one. I take it the mouse you enjoy is the one listed? It probably has more to do with personal choice. Funny thing, I did use a Wacom tablet for a while, it was good but I really do not see many people using them anymore, especially those that are new to editing. I am sure in some professions they have a place but there was a time when that was the avenue being pushed. You also have a learning curve there too. Thank you for all you do! Rich

Hi Rich, you are right of course, practice makes perfect. I use the mouse shown on the right, it can be used either wireless or wired. I normally use it wired since the response is faster although I do like not having to fight the cable when in wireless mode. The mouse on the left is the next one I plan to get, it is one step up from the one on the right. I am a big fan of using gaming equipment for photo editing. Along with the mouse I also have a gaming keyboard from Corsair and a nice gaming chair. All of these things are designed for people spending hours at their computers in a graphics heavy environment, sure sounds like photo editing to me. I am like you, I have tried the tablet route but I am just more comfortable with a mouse. If I was doing more creative digital painting stuff I would use the tablet.

no joking, it’s quite effective to just click the dropper all over your photo until you see what you like. Fast, easy, effective. Plus you can dial in your wb with a/b comparisons

That's kind of like throwing darts at a dart board with your eyes closed, you may hit the target, but more likely you won't. In a standard 6x4 image there are over 2 1/2 million pixels. My technique finds the correct pixel without blindly hitting away. Sure, your technique may work if you are lucky, I don't like relying on luck.
