In my experience so far, white belts expect the other person to know how to defend, and are so new to winning that they get more emotionally attached to their submission if they think they’re close. That’s why I don’t like white belts doing heel hooks personally. Some of em turn into Palhares when they think they’re losing the sub😂 Enjoyed hearing y’alls thoughts on these things, keep it up🙌🏻
@benvanlier7434 Жыл бұрын
This is why I don't think white belts should be doing heel hooks etc in live rolling. Teach them the moves, drill it with them, but don't let them do it in sparring till Blue/Purple.
@markuscroubere1140 Жыл бұрын
I think this reveals more about you getting emotionally attached to not getting tapped by a white belt than anything else. You should know that the breaking mechanism of heel hooks requires control of the heel. That means you're not in danger as long your training partner doesn't control the heel. That's the moment where you can safely go through your defenses. You should tap if they gain control of your heel. You should never make it to the point where they're cranking it. You got caught, now let it go. The only way I could see this going wrong is if they ignore the tap. This is dangerous in any submission, and someone who ignores the tap should be banned for life from the gym.

Nicky is a mastermind. The fact that he tricked Nicky Rod and Ethan into a "white belt video" is remarkable. However, the reality is that this is a spazz intervention. Even the shot is intentional: Ethan, the giga spazz, is seated close to the light source to be highlighted. J Rod is positioned in the middle to occupy as much of the screen as possible, and Nicky is in the corner in front of Ethan, being as confrontational as possible. You can even tell at 23:14 by J-Rod's face that he realizes this was a setup. Good job, Nicky! You are a genius.

All I got from this was learn wrestling and leg locks if you want to beat white belts that practice traditional jiu-jitsu... Also defining a spaz is easy... Spazzing out is movement without purpose. .. think about how you can use explosive energy. Tactically to create a scramble when you are in a bad position, people will call that good jiu-jitsu. Meanwhile, if all you do is make explosive movements and create scrambles until you can catch a submission, you will be called a spaz. .. You aren't thinking about defense or offense or tactics, You are relying on explosive energy and dumb luck to catch submissions and you are probably the type of person that will hurt someone else because you will crank a submission way too hard. Everything you do should be measured. You should always be thinking about the return on investment for energy expenditure... And you should never be relying on explosive energy and strength as the key component of your game. Explosive energy and strength is a tactic that should be used intentionally in certain situations to certain effect... . I'm not saying that you should never rely on explosive energy and creating scrambles.. against certain opponents that might be all you have... But if you don't know how to think in terms of energy conservation, defense, and tactics, and the only thing you do is rely on explosive strength to create scrambles. Then you aren't really doing jujitsu you are a spaz.

If I try to do 100% of my rounds like that I will gas out quick. .. I had to dial it back and get better at playing open guard because most of my opponents were bigger / better than me and my return on investment trying to play a wrestling/top game against them just wasn't there. ... I'm gradually getting better at all of it, and I would say slowing down and trying to control the pace from bottom rather than force a top game has definitely made me less of a spaz... But to each their own. Cheers!!

Do i tap once i lose control of the arm ? Was my training partner doin too much ? Will work on more defense but Thanks for the Read OSSS
@retroghidora6767 Жыл бұрын
Conventially speaking tapping before you feel pressure in your elbow, especially like tapping the second they just start falling back, would be a bit early. That being said if you took an injury NOT tapping early then at the very least it's probably called for with that individual. If that person really blasted your arm without tike to tap you should talk to him and maybe your coach about it. Like the b team guys don't even apply breaking pressure at all a lot of the time, if you can't escape once they fall back in like 3 seconds you respect the fact that they could've hurt you and tap. That or at least not going 100% as fast as possible are a better way to do it. That being said you need to really reflect on the situation and sus out who was blame, did they really not give you a chance to tap? Were trying to escape even as you were feeling pain and pressure? Ask yourself these kinds of questions. Who knows it might even be a little on both of you.

in the martial art I trained in, it's the same with any joint lock, and joint lock throws and take downs - we introduce the concept extremely early, but only operate in a slow motion process so there is time for everyone to perceive what is occurring to them and their opponent as stress and fear build up from a joint being manipulated. Same method for striking and footwork, you bring forth the concept, practice it in slow motion, build up the confidence to know how to respond instead of react, and as progression occurs, you can up the speed. Giving and taking a highly dangerous move in full speed really isn't that effective for training, survival instincts kick in and the part of the brain that is creative gets sidelined for lower parts of the brain that is ready to "save us".

Starting BJJ about a year ago was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made. I felt like I was naturally good at it, at least compared to other… because when we first started out everyone was mostly “white belt” given there were a few who trained wrestling a lot in the, judo, mma.. but for BJJ everyone was white belt.. I destroyed it, like I remember tapping out this guy that was near 100lb heavier than me 2x in a row… there was this other guy like had to be 6’4, light skinned tattoos all around his body and we were about to go “live” and all I was thinking is “I’m about to get murdered, look at him . I’m 5’7 160lb” …. He was the easiest person I’ve face in my life training , I literally held him against the wall for 5min till the round was over and he couldn’t get up (I didn’t know any subs really at the time besides chokes so against him I just played it safe and resorted back to my wrestling) So yeah, starting BJJ after 2 weeks I learned that just because someone is big doesn’t mean they are strong in a fighting element. Then I stopped training for like 3 months or so, came back and was getting destroyed by the white belts now lmao… then after a few more classes I got back into the groove and they were not destroying me anymore, it was more even… so on base level I’d say I’m as good as a white belt who has ~6 months training. Then I was let go from my job in October and haven’t trained since… I think about going back almost everyday but I don’t have the money

I’m so split about the leg locks. On one hand it would be stupid to not allow leg locks. It’s like Danaher said why would you ignore 50% of the human body. On the other hand I like grappling/Jiujitsu techniques that can be applied in MMA or real life fighting situations . And you can definitely leg lock people in MMA but we have seen people getting knocked out or end up in terrible positions, loose fights on the scorecard going for leg locks. It’s simply put extremely risky to go for leg locks when punches are involved. But in purely grappling leg locks are one of the fastest way you can finish a fight and allows you to chase the back. I don’t know I have a love hate relationship with leg locks. But I trained MMA before starting Jiujitsu so that is probably influencing my view on leg locks.

First of all non of these guys have an academy teaching white belts, so teaching white belts leg locks and less injuries is absurd. Ask any school owner what happens if you have white belts leg locking each other? Injuries galore, and you will lose students. That is not a good idea. I completely disagree with White Belts training leg locks.
@mikeymouse3941 Жыл бұрын
B team allows white belts now. It’s good to have familiarity with leg locks. Ankle locks are allowed at white belt. Nothing else leg related is allowed until brown belt under IBJJF rules. At the very least, white belts should know how to do an ankle lock and defend it. I don’t think they should try the other leg lock related maneuvers, however, as they are super high risk. I don’t care for leg locks outside of calf slicers and ankle locks, personally, as they can result in catastrophic injuries far more often than upper body related attacks.

Nicky breaking a guy’s ankle at White Belt demonstrates why they SHOULD be illegal at that level. I disagree. Let some guys learn some skill and control BEFORE they take limbs and joints that have very little room before injury happens. These guys are young. I understand the logic, but they are wrong. For the dude on the left to say the best thing that could have happened for this guy was Nicky to break his leg is beyond stupid. Maybe Nicky needed more control before he was allowed to use these attacks? Duh. For sure. To say it was alm the other guy’s fault as a White Belt “because he never saw one before” is the ultimate in stupid. Nicky broke his ankle, not the other way around. He was 13 with no control, and the ego and tap was more important than the other man’s health and safety.
