It's called freestyling. Talented rappers from the 90s would rap off the top of their head. Which basically means they make it up on the spot. Usually about the people and things they saw around them at the time or was just brought up in previous conversation. Nobody actually really freestyles anymore. I doubt that. Yes, he is a hilarious entertainer and very well educated. Most folks wouldn't be able to freestyle at this level or freestyle at all let alone in front of an audience. This is because many people have invested very little time trying to learn the art of freestyling - me included. There are so many possible skills you can start to learn and freestyling is not on top of most of the lists. This combined with the fact that stage experience is something rather rare among people and you'll get a population where only a few are able to do what he is doing. The point is though that if you are somewhat intelligent you could - if you really tried - aquire the general knowledge and the ability to freestyle as he does. Even just having the general knowledge will help you immensely as you will always have something to fall back on. I'm not trying to discredit him here. I just think that people often underestimate themselves and that many are capable of much more than they currently manifest. At least that is my impression.
