I had them hitch hike as eggs in Water Sprite to a summer tub last year. Imagine my surprise when I found LF White Clouds in my Swordtail fry. Great video. Thanks.

Haha I bet you were thinking you had some odd looking swordtails 😂

Hi, I have breed the white cloud Moutain Minnow both outdoors and indoors. I have mainly kept them in a tank by themselves with some plecos. They seem to stop sometimes. I know they are said to be continous spawners but mine seem to stop. Good video, I also keep plants in pots in the tank as well as floating plants, wisteria and hornwort. Thank you for putting out these videos.
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
Hey Stephen thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah for me they have been spawning continuous so I'm not sure what could be causing them to stop breeding for you. You could try feeding them lots of protein rich food such as frozen brine shrimp or blood worms, I find when I feed these foods it does a good job conditioning the fish for breeding, hopefully that helps😀

Good video. Would you say they breed as easy as guppies?
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
They are pretty close to the same difficulty! I would say as long as they are kept in a species only tank without a strong filter to suck up the fry they breed without much effort just like guppies! 😀

Nice video! I'm interested in these guys because of their sub-tropical tolerances to temperature, and hopefully will be setting up a system for them soon. Thanks for the breeding info.

No problem, thanks for watching! That is one of the reasons why I like them so much is because they do the best without a heater where I am from! 👍 Good luck!

Another great video! Do the adults eat the fry?
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Marc! Nope in my experience the adults tend to leave the fry alone, which makes them super easy to breed!😀

Great video! Awesome white clouds. I keep mine in one of my community tanks so the fry rarely make it lol
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yeah, it wasn't until I put them in their own tank that I started having the fry survive

Haha that sounds about right! 😂 Good to hear you are having success, pretty soon you are going to be over run with fry, not that it will be a bad thing though!

Very good video. Is there a temperature ratio that you use for the breeding process.
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
Hey Joe, I keep them around 63 - 66 F or 17.5 - 19.5 C. Thanks for watching! 😀

Did you breed them in that little white container or just leave them in the tank and then separate them when you saw fry?
@lalaithan5 жыл бұрын
I've always wondered if you keep breeding the shortfins long enough, when will you begin to see variations like gold or longfin or do you ever?
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's interesting, I'm under the impression that the long finned variety came from selectively breeding the shortfins for the longer fin trait. But in larger fish farms it's possible that they cross breed with golds and other varieties every once in a while so it might be possible they carry some of those genes and they might produce babies of other varieties randomly.
@lalaithan5 жыл бұрын
@@Widquatics possibly. My LFS has both gold and "normal" in the same tank so it makes me wonder these things, haha.

Gah!@#! I'm so jealous! I started to breed Golden White Clouds back in October and since then I've seen exactly ONE fry that survived about a week. Why do people say it's so easy?! Maybe I'm just making it too complicated...
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
Damn that's too bad! I thought the exact same thing because I didn't start seeing fry for the longest time. For me when I started feeding more quality food (like frozen brine shrimp) is when they started breeding. Is it possible the fry are getting eaten by another tank mate or being sucked up by a filter? Those are two other common reasons for low survival rates. Thanks for watching and I hope they start breeding more reliably for you soon!😀
@George-ow9nl Жыл бұрын
breeding in pond is way easier as fry has more space to hide. and there is more food source rather breed in tank

Iv kept white clouds in a 10 gallon planted tank with a male betta fish for about 9 months now and I have still yet to get any fry from my minnows. Could it be from the betta fish?
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
It could be, the fry tend to hang around the surface which is likely where your betta likes to feed from but if it is heavily planted I would imagine some fry to survive. It could also be the filter is sucking them up if that is possible
@pittsburghaquaria60115 жыл бұрын
Widquatics I have a hob filter so that could be possible that it is sucking up the fry. I wouldn’t think it would be strong enough to suck them all though
@Widquatics5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is hard to say but the fry are really tiny when thy first hatch so it is very possible the HOB is sucking them up, it wouldn't hurt to try it with an intake sponge for a bit and see if you start seeing fry.
