Winter has finally arrived in Denmark, and I made a hike to the White Forest. Showing some new gear I recently made, and backed a little delicious lunch.
I'm very pleased with my new D.I.Y. lantern, and made a tutorial on how I made it. Hope you like and share.

I should say, I'm 100 percent Irish (all 4 grandparents coming from there). Imagine if 300 of these Cimbrer guys came rowing up to my village .....I think it could be a much friendlier interaction than would have occurred historically. lol. You cant help but like this Cimbrer; he seems like a great guy. However, I am really glad he does not have a sword with him. Cimbrer seems very friendly and likable; however, I would not want to have to fight him.

Greetings Tom. Beautiful woodland, peaceful camp, and really nice newly crafted gear. That lantern has spirit too and gave a cozy aura to your setting. Must have been a awesome time there, good smoke, calm fire, nice brew, WOW what a fine lunch, coffee, and shared your crafts. The world stops when I see your videos. Life is such a precious gift...damn I forget that at times, then I meet you and find the tranquility within and keep on keeping on! Thank you,

I have seen another version of your lantern. The other one used a straight running stitch to sew the rawhide together. I love the cross stitch that you used on yours, It makes the finished lantern more attractive to the eye. I was amazed that you used a simple steamer to make your fire in! What a cleaver idea.

Hello my Brother #Tom at #Cimbrerbushcraft , Glad to see you are still doing good Brother . Love the lamp , Back many years ago when people first started settling the Western U.S. some people would put a hole in the wall of there cabin and do the same thing with the rawhide . They called them Window Lights , I have one uncle that still calls windows that , LOL . But he was raised up back in these hills just like myself . This part of Arkansas was settle by many Scotts/Irish folk , And of course man of them had Norse Ancestry . When I was able to do anything I always liked doing it the old ways , A man can do a lot with good hand saws and hammers , And a good hand drill and hatchet or axe . I use to collect old time hand tools but have not done anything with them in years . My son is almost 40 now and is getting interested in doing things like that , So I try to show him how to use the tools and how they work . How to use the hammer and anvil , My anvil is a peace of train track that was used by my Great Grandfather , And I have a few of his hammers . I figure on passing them down to my son some day in hopes that he to will pass them down someday , So far he is single and has no children . Love your hat also , I have one similar , But mine is brown and has a red and white trim on it . Theres nothing warmer then wool . Well Brother , I'll leave you alone . You take care now and stay safe , We got some snow the other day also . Its pretty , But cold weather makes my bones hurt . LOL , Best of luck my Friend Tom . Waiting for the next video already .

Fun trick you might like for marking out 6 equal points on a circle. Each of those points will have the same distance between them as the radius. That means you can use the compass used to draw the circle to mark out each point. Helps when youre trying to do something like this with only a piece of string and a pencil

Love the lantern and basket. I made a shade for the lamp beside my bed from rawhide awhile back, it suits the lamp very well as it looks like a fireplace. I've been looking at them fire anchors for quite some time. I have the same patch of the vegavesir on my military field jacket. I hand carved a set of runes probably 25 ago. Another great video, Tom. I was admiring the Birka cap with its added trim. I have sparse to no hair on my head and such a cap looks to be practical and comfortable. As someone who lives in the United States, there's so much we can learn about how our ancestors in Europe did things. There's a lot of people here, myself included over the last few years who are looking into more traditional and older ways of doing things. I was looking at tin lanterns but I like this idea so much better.

That is the way that Tom creates such a pleasant, community atmosphere in the comments section by attracting awesome people and interacting with them in such supportive and positive ways. Nice video. I use rawhide dog chews for my rawhide as well. I get the 3 ft long ones and soak them in the bathtub although my wife complains about the smell. These are all made in China and I wouldn't dare let any dog chew on them as god knows how they were processed, but they do make good rawhide. Many of them have smaller pieces of hide rolled up inside so sometimes you get a bonus. You can sand the rough side for a smoother finish, and use linseed oil for better translucent light (also waterproofing). In your bread you might try adding green pea flour which the vikings used also (maybe lentil also), and is quite tasty. It would be nice to see a pattern for your hat. Thank You for the interesting video. I will look at the others. You are lucky to live in Denmark. In Amerika "the land of the free" you would need to be on private land or have a bunch of permits $$ to do this here.

I like your new Viking hat. It looks good on you and it is very authentic for the Viking Age. When I started to wear a Scottish Balmoral bonnet years ago, some people didn't understand and some people in the village said it was the "old hat" from times gone by. I said it was my heritage and important to me. Now people compliment me for wearing it. You look Viking!

Lots of interesting stuff in the video. The basket reminded me of when I was a young boy and I used to help my Mother make cane baskets. We had them all over the house for knick nacks, etc. I had one on my bedside table for many years. I painted the wooden base and Mum bought me a transfer of a Palomino horse. She made them mostly for the church where they were sold to fellow churchgoers at fetes and as raffle prizes. The fire base is interesting, just a steamer! I will pinch the one out of the kitchen, we never seem to use it as my Chinese wife has a big steamer. The lantern is amazing, I like to get off the computer, etc for an hour or two (blue light) and sit on my front verandah and watch the night sky (my wife thinks I am crazy). That would improve the atmosphere, I will have to make one. Thanks for a restful, informative hour. PS, Your water pot (we call them Billys) is an interesting piece as well.
