I disagree about the 'simple living' part of the title. When each and every item you own has been carefully and precisely and LOVINGLY made according to values and traditions that, mostly, don't exist any more, and when those items BELONG to you, mortgage and debt free, then you are living a glorious and rarified - a ROYAL life.
@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag9 ай бұрын
Yeah you could say that Susan 😉 but it’s low tech in our time and therefore I would call it a simple life 👍🏻🏕🔥 Tom

Tom, You have acquired quite a collection of Viking items that really show your love and respect for the Viking Age. I know you have waited for some time to do this video. Let me say.....it was worth the wait. I look forward to more traditional reproductions of what it was like in the Viking age. You have the ability to transport so many people back in time, this is a special gift that you share with the world. Thank you for all that you do. I love your content and your gentle Spirit! Dear friend Tom. What a wonderful place to set up your camp. I'm sure Ikea's designers are shaking. I love all the furniture you have built for that camp, it's fascinating and I congratulate you on that great work. You will tell me how you do to transport it; I imagine that when you install it, you can take a vehicle nearby. I really think it's a wonderful job you've done. Receive a very cordial hug and I encourage you to move on with it.

Although I rarely make comments, I have been following your videos for a while and always enjoy them! I also have recently been exploring the history of the Vikings and as I watched this video (and thought about some others I have seen) I am able to see how closely your work and designs are to that of the Vikings I am learning about. I love the furniture you made and am truly impressed with the combination of functionality, art and tradition that you have put into your work! It is obvious to me how much you love your heritage and I appreciate you sharing this love in your videos. If i was still teaching (I am retired) I would include your videos to enrich the teaching of Viking history! Thank you!

WOW Tom, so many wonderful things you've made for the Viking life, where do I start..👍👍 All the new furniture is exceptional, the frame bed is astonishingly good with the cord webbing and its construction. Too bad it turned cold on you two, must do something about that(small stove perhaps?) The chair, table and shelving all go together with the Viking tent to compliment each other and contribute to Viking living as a whole. Fire, fine food, signature Cimbrer coffee😉and Cornelius at your side, doesn't get any better than this. Great overnight stay the Viking way, yeah it has been a real pleasure to join you again for another adventure in such a beautiful setting, thanks brother. See you in the next one. Enjoy!

Awesome over-nighter Tom with all your equipment too!! Cornelius was ready to taste every great meal. We try to eat as to what was available in Viking Ireland. Last week, a friend of ours went to Corpus Christi to do some fishing.and brought us back some shark steaks 1 1/2 inches thick. We grilled them over the fire... they were awesome on top of a pottage of carrots, parsnips, cabbage, leaks, and a few beans. Once again you have given a couple of us some inspiration on items for their tent camps. Be well and go well my friend!!

You have done a fine job of craftsmanship on the furnishings: it cannot be easy to color the varied wood grain so evenly. The new pipe is special. It looks to have an amber tip and the stem would be worth telling us more about. In Colonial America, rope beds were common AND they needed to be tightened regularly since natural fiber cordage stretched a good bit. There was a 'key' device to do that. Of many fine scenes, I best like the one with the Gods on the stand with the candle light.

Wow Tom you have been busy!!! Love all the furniture and how it all goes together to create a very civilised camp. I like the chair/table combo. Not so sure about the solid oak chair, that looks like it needs a little padding 😄 Your first priority is a hard case to transport that beautiful pipe, stop it getting broken when you head for the forest. I think camp beds are cold because they lose heat from the bottom. A man with your skills could easily make an underquilt out of traditional materials if you picked up a second hand down sleeping bag. Suspend it below the ropes. There was a bit of the video where you were so obviously happy with the set up and the enjoyment of the night I felt really happy for you. Skol brother. I’m on holiday on the Spanish island of Majorca. highs of 34 degrees C and lows of 26, so I raised a glass of strawberry schnapps to you freezing your butt off. 🌞

In old Norse the one on your pipe is also called the Ægishjálmr in the saga's it has also been refereed to as the Helm of Terror. Love your setup Tom is is awesome! Regards Bruce

Finally getting caught up with your videos Tom I've had bad phone service this season here in the mtns of Maine 👍. You did a great job on the Viking furniture. I really like the wood burnt chair table really good Tom. I also like that 2 piece high back chair you were sitting in really nice 👍 great job my friend ✌️ Be safe my friend give Sir Cornelius a pet for me.

The only issue I have with this truly wonderful video is you need to make a viking wagon to transport your gear because you could never cary all that to a camp. Great video, Tom.
@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag Жыл бұрын
That’s right 😉👍🏻 it’s much too heavy for carrying. But the Vikings would have transported it on their ships or as you say on some kind of wagon 👍🏻 🏕🔥🌲 Tom 🐕

This reminds me of this song: From out of the North like an icy wind Came Odin's fair warriors breed With broadaxe and spear they followed a star Adventure and glory their need They conquered the seas in their dragon ships Fought bravely in many a land For the Valkyrie maids will come for the man Who dies with a sword in his hand This may be my favorite Cimber Bushcraft video. Your furniture show you are an accomplished craftsman. I loved this video, and love your Viking tent. So much to enjoy. And a beautiful pipe, by the way. Norwegian pipe tobacco is great, if that is what you smoked.

I love your new pipe, it is very special and fits perfectly to your stuff 👍 And don't be so sure that no Northmen in the wiking age knew the tobaco plant. In the year 999 Leif Eriksson with his men, set his foot onto the shores of America, probably as first European ever, where the natives long before that time already used to smoke tobaco.
@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your information about the tobacco 😁👍🏻 I didn’t know the Canadian Indians used it … I always thought it was something that came from South America 😊👏🏻🏕🔥🌲🐕 Tom

Good to hear that you like my pipe! :) The origin of tobacco here in Europe isn't that clear and I must confess that I don't know much about it - but as far as I know people definitely smoked different herbs.

Back in the late 1960s and up to about 1980-‘85 the best pipes were made from Algerian Heart Briarwood , probably the same today; although pipe makers had pretty much taken all the best briar by then. That style is called over here, “a Danish” style. I wish I could show you some photos of my collection.

Ok 🤔 didn’t know that Gary but I guess it’s matching the county it landed in. 🏕🔥🐕 Tom

G'day Tom...... AWESOME...... just AWESOME, I so wish our world could take a few steps back and embrace the values that we once held.... It seems apparent that with our technological advancement we may actually not be bettering our existence ..? The outstanding videos that you so kindly share amongst us should serve as a reminder as to how basic, simplified and fulfilling life can be, how we can benefit by re-introducing some of these values and simplicity into our everyday lives, and at the same time, hopefully regain an understanding and appreciation of all the glorious benefits nature offers to us...... Cheers to you my friend... Be well...... JB..

John, you aren't the first person to think that way. Try to get hold of a book called 'The Fat Of The Land' by John Seymour who also wrote 'The Complete Book Of Self-Sufficiency'. He was an English historian of lost British crafts and traditions. Also, you might enjoy 'The Whole Earth Catalogue' (Google it!). You won't get The Fat Of The Land new but you might get a copy in a second-hand or antiquarian bookshop. Tom, you might enjoy these books too, and John Seymour also wrote a book about lost and vanishing crafts.
