Absolutely love this! Been watching a lot of tutorials from Stone Coat Countertops, but Mike just goes completely crazy with fractures and veins everywhere. I don't see counters that are that busy being popular in my area. What seems to be most in demand is more subtle quartz or granite. So, this is perfect!

I did it! I used your instructions but had to vary them a bit because after I mixed it up I realized I had didn’t have enough of the white dye, (as I had done two smaller sections) But It was a blessing in disguise, as it turned out looking way more realistic than the other two! It was kind of scary, as I had to improvise, and add veins of clear epoxy, but good old gravity did the rest! Even after I tell my friends and neighbors that it's epoxy, they almost don’t believe me as it looks so much like real stone, espcially with the matte Ultimate Topcoat. Thank you for all your videos, etc.! I have watched lots of countertop videos for the last couple of years and it was so worth it!

Rhonda, thanks for all your help. i am getting ready to start my project and i'm very excited. I am doing my Stone Coat "over" my current granite countertops. I bought the recommended bond primer but is there anything else i need to know? I will not be removing my counters, so have to tape around my sink. any suggestions on that? and can i use 99% alcohol? I have ordered the 91% also but it will get here in 3 weeks -- but the 99% i can get next week. Thoughts?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 4 жыл бұрын
80% of your success will be how well you prep your area. Make sure you over prepare and take the plastic well. Epoxy has a way of sneaking through any gap or gap. Taping the sink is a good idea. I would remove the take a couple of hours after you pour. Just remember, by leaving the sink in place, you’ll never be able to remove it without potentially damaging your countertop. Good luck and have fun! 😊

Epoxy countertops will last a lifetime when cared for properly. Not installed where they are exposed the the direct element, high UV exposure, cleaned with a mild non-abrasive cleaner etc. If they do start to show their age, it very easy to sand slightly and repour a clear flood coat. We use The Ultimate Top Coat on all our countertops for added durability. Hope this made sense. 😊

@@RK3Designs thanks! Wondering can a hair dryer be used instead of a heat torch? I'm looking to do a small bathroom countertop project, about 4' wide but has a hole for the countertop (20"x16"), so the surface isn't that big.

@@mathalwaysii a torch works the best because it gives high heat very quickly. If you have a strong hairdryer, you could possibly get away with it on a small surface. 😊

Rhonda, I'm having my beach house built in Belize. I have my stone coat Epoxy & RESIN ready. I love your technique, however you didn't mention you used RESIN in your pour? I'm confused, do I not need resin? Did I miss you saying Resin?

If you have Stonecoat part A&B. You’re good. Part A is the Resin and part B is the hardener.

Rhonda, thank you! How would you add a little coffee/java color to that? Extremely subtle?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 4 жыл бұрын
A couple of ways. You can add just a tick of color when you lay down the epoxy at the start. Maybe mix a little up in a cup and meld it into the finish. Or just very lightly fog and fracture like I did with the gray spray paint.

@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 3 жыл бұрын
Is the backsplash integrated with the countertop? If so you can let the epoxy set up a bit before you apply to the backsplash. It will be difficult to achieve the same look as the flat surface. I would maybe do a design that you can apply and let dry before you add the epoxy. I have a couple of videos on that on my channel. 😊

I’m ready to order my supplies, thanks to your video. I do have a question, does epoxy yellow over time? Or will it be forever clear?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 3 жыл бұрын
ALL epoxy will Amber over time no matter what brand. I use Stonecoat Countertop epoxy which has some of the highest UV additives on the market. When doing anything white, I use their Art Coat with the maximum UV protection. Actual yellowing of a countertop is usually caused by the color additives used to tint, and react with the epoxy. The natural Ambering could take years but constant sunlight and certain chemicals can speed the process.

This piece didn’t have a flood coat. Are you getting waves in your flood coat? That could be caused by air movement as the piece is curing. You can definitely sand before applying the Ultimate Top Coat if that’s what you’re referring to. I’m May be confused on the question though.
