Hey everyone! I'm just a guy from Europe - Poland, to be more precise - who loves speaking Vietnamese. I spent a few years living in Hanoi, Vietnam, and during that time, I fell in love with the language and the culture. I think there's something truly special about learning languages and being able to communicate with people in their native tongue. I record these videos just for fun, hoping to put a smile on people's faces. I hope you enjoy them! 🇻🇳

Man I went to Vietnam for 3 weeks last year with my best friend, he’s Vietnamese. I miss the country so much. I wanna learn the language so bad, I wanna interact with the people

Many studies show that when you are engaged in something you learn much faster and it's true. For example one strong emotional interaction when your friend shouts 'cút đi' (as a joke) is worth more than a few hours with flashcards. The expression from that initial reaction without repetition will be remembered. Since your best friend is Vietnamese and we are aiming for emotional connections with learning content you can joke around and learn for instance two words a day with no immense pressure. It's a slow process and don't believe all those 'How to be fluent in 30 days' claims. Those scammers just want your money. Grammar is usually much easier than English in Southeast Asian languages (at least in the case of Vietnamese, Mandarin, Korean and Indonesian for instance). The real challenge lies in listening and speaking due to the number of tones. I am a huge fan of learning through conversation and emotions not books. Kids also learn simply by having a chat and I have realized it's the best approach. GRAMMAR: Find the target accent you want to learn and learn grammar and some phrases from KZbin. For the Northern accent check out "Tieng Viet Oi". For the Southern accent try "How To Vietnamese" and "Learn Vietnamese With Annie". SPEAKING: What people very often don't understand is that speaking is not as important as listening. Once your listening skills are good being thrown into speaking for a few weeks with a native speaker works like magic. So after a few months of YT, chatting with friend and VTV/Netflix use iTalki with a native speaker teacher who has the target accent (ONLY use Vietnamese to communicate, even if you only know a few words, and they will try to explain in English. Quick explanations are okay but avoid relying on English for 80% of the time) LISTENING: Use the VTV app for the Northern accent (no subtitles at all) and Netflix for the Southern accent (use ONLY Vietnamese subtitles no English even if you understand 0%). I know it's going to be hard at the beginning. Trust me I understand the pain. When you go outside to buy something and no one understands you even though you are 100% sure you said it correctly it can be frustrating. We are simply not used to speaking tonal languages but it gets easier. In a world filled with quick shots of dopamine we struggle to focus on one task for a longer period but those who are patient are the ones who succeed. Be patient. You will get there soon; just keep practicing every day for about 2 hours and believe me it's not much if you really want to learn. As for spare time you can always find it. Good luck!

@@PeterViet Hi Peter. Will you give input on how to learn Polish language? I'm a Vietnamese American from California. I find Polish language is as difficult as learning the Chinese language.
@PeterViet
@PeterViet Жыл бұрын
@@a_sea_oasis I would apply similar rules I mentioned before, but with one thing in mind: when it comes to Polish and Slavic languages in general, the real challenge lies not in speaking and listening, but in grammar. Whereas with tonal languages, it is the other way around.

Why is it impressive for a white person to know another language? Do we really believe they’re that self involved, unlike the rest of the world? So weird… And never trust a guy obsessed with Asian shit. They’re usually fetishizers, gross.

Hi mate just watched through all you’re vids, really amazing how well you can speak Vietnamese, I have been before but how did you get a visa long enough to stay and learn? I’d love to try but have heard it’s really difficult to get the visa for longer to learn the language

@@cormacjames4766 This teaching thing in Vietnam is much more difficult from what I heard these days. I heard a lot that it's not as easy as it was even 2 years ago but if you have proper papers proving your competences then you should be fine as long as some company will be willing to hire you and sponsor your visa or you may pay for it upfront but it's a very dodgy business. I heard a lot about people being scammed. Good luck mate!

I cant speak for him but as someone who also taught myself to speak a foreign language to the same level as him (Thai) I can think in Thai the same as in English. He explains in another video that he literally spoke to himself in Vietnamese and that got him to the next level in that language. That Intrapersonal communication is so important to learn another language to such a high level.
