“The report from the White House reads like a sophomore year term paper by Stephen Miller, using images of Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln while defending America's founding on slavery. All stamped with the weight of the U.S. government,” says Chris Hayes on “The 1776 Report.” Aired on 01/18/2021.

Right and the more you talk about what each other has done to each other the more problems there will be for all. Keep living in the past. There are some ignorant racist whites and blacks. Blacks are more actually way way more racist than whites. And that is one reason that whites that I know that hate black people hate them for their hate of them. It's a terrible circle. We need to fight for each other as one country for each other. Hopefully we can somehow come together before another country comes on and takes over while we are arguing amongst ourselves. I grew up no dad on food stps in the hood till 32 years old. I'm poor myself and been to prison and jail many times. Well pen for mass weed trying to pay the bills and survive. But then changed my life and moved away from my friends 20 years ago. I'm not totally happy with my white life at all and feel like the world is against me too. But I do try everyday to make it legit and I am, but it's very rough. Point not all have it great and not all is racist.

@@AAaa-pd4sb i think the issue is that people confuse races with racism. Racism exists, but deciding who the racists are by their skin color is just more racism. Everybody needs to remember what MLK said. We need to judge people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. If you are a white nationalist, you are a racist. But if you are a black person who thinks all white people are white nationalists, well then you are a racist also. Both positions are judging based on how someone was born. Nobody chooses that.

Funny how the democrat party is the party of slavery and the KKK and how they fought and died to hold onto slavery. Even Biden and democrats in the 70's fought for segregation. Now they try to rewrite history, pretend they never did any such thing, and enslave black Americans by making them think democrats care about them to get their vote, then make sure black Americans remain poor and likely to not be able to succeed to repeat this cycle of "we care, vote for us so things will change, [things don't change under their leadership, next election comes up, repeat]" Joe Biden on black people (as Senator) twitter.com/christianllamar/status/1121367780626812928 Unless we do something about that cadre of young people, tens of thousands of them born out of wedlock without parents, without supervision, without any structure, without any conscience developing, because they literally have not been socialized… If we don’t they will, or a portion of them will become the predators 15 years from now. Madam President we have predators on our streets… Again, it does not mean that because we created them that we somehow forgive them or do not take them out of society to protect my family and yours from them. They are beyond the pale. We have no choice but to take them out of society.

@@ForumLight Exactly. They voted out the one president who actually tried to give them jobs and work with HBCU leaders and black cultural leaders and tried to get government out of the way. Ask any Democrat what their people have accomplished in the big Democrat-run cities and you’ll get crickets. No one can provide a single positive example of Democrats helping minorities in areas where they’ve been running things nonstop for half a century or more.

It seems important when people are talking about an honest version of history that we know that the trail of tears happened. As late as the 70's and 80's that on Native American reservations women were, under the guise of gynecological exams, having radical hysterectomy's and other procedures to make them infertile. We still seem incapable of having a real conversation so people march. Too many see these people in the street and have no idea why they are marching.

I think we should be careful when saying things like “even more” when talking about the killing of Native Americans, slavery, Jim Crow, and the Holocaust. I don’t like the idea of comparing pain. Native Americans were wiped out in tribes sorta like the Jewish but still there are differences and the pain is unique. You can also say blacks went through an added layer of difficulty because it wasn’t just slavery but Jim Crow too. Still all 3 were terrible and we should avoid comparing while still healing the deep cuts. Shocking there’s still one of those 3 that never got reparations. They all deserved them.

This is where "free" black people had to go back to work for their former slave owners. If they didn't they were put in jail. Never learned this in school. Can't we condemn the '1776 Report' with honesty? First of all, Tocqueville was French, not English, and wrote 'Democracy in America' well after the Founders died; his observations about US slavery therein were thus not the slightest bit contemporary. Second, Tocqueville supported colonialism, and wasn't concerned so much about the brutality of American slavery as he was over the fact that the US still practiced it at all even after every other Western nation had already abolished the practice. Third, the English (and French) knowingly profited off slavery in the States all the way through to the end of the Civil War; in fact, they rooted for the Confederacy to win. Neither nation was phased in any serious way by the institution, nor the manner in which it was carried out. We can discuss the abhorrence of American slavery without making the US out to be some unique historic evil, as the latter is little more than an ahistorical and, frankly, disingenuous attempt to assuage the weird guilt complex some liberals have over being American, and possibly to virtue signal. It's unhelpful, and, not to mention obnoxious. As such, it's a gift to the whitewashers of the nation, and needs to be knocked off.

I remember in my first year of university in 2002, I met some American students who had come over to study for a year. I remember distinctly that they were amazed to see interracial couples walking down the street with nobody batting an eye. In the part of the US they had travelled from, such was unthinkable, at least not without drawing some eyes. It was just one of the ways that they were amazed at how liberal and progressive Britain was compared to their home. I had to break it to them that Britain is one of the more self-destructively backwards and conservative nations of Europe. America likes to call itself the land of the free. But it was built by slaveowners who didn't want to pay Parliament's taxes and to this day continues to indenture people to their employers through a barbaric healthcare system. None of this is to say that America cannot live up to its own hype. Rather, it should stop patting itself on the back for non-existent equalities and take the time to make those equalities a fact.

You do realize insurrectuonists, many of which were wearing overtly racist attire, yelling racial slurs at officers, and carrying the Confederate flag, stormed our Captiol in the year of 2021? The proper perspective is that the country was built - built - on the pain and suffering of enslaved people. This wasn’t an overnight event. It was perpetuated for hundreds of years. The decedents of those enslaved peoples, born in this nation just like the rest of us, have yet to be treated like equal citizens. So yes, until we deal with that history honestly, our history of slavery does define us.
