It’s rare that a cover song tops an original for me. This is top shelf, outstanding work with no disrespect to meant to Golden Earring. Vito Bratta adds so much soul to the song with his phrasings and of course that solo.
@kazkylheku12212 жыл бұрын
The guitar tops the original, in terms of chops. The vocals, drums and bass, not so much. The original guitar work is very good; tastefully done, moody and fits the song. Just doesn't have the fretboard gymnastics. The original has a different atmosphere. There is more space in it. It has other elements like some brass is heard, tambourine. The best result would have been Bratta jamming with Golden Earring, I think.
@kwantoon Жыл бұрын
@@kazkylheku1221 I think in a lot of ways it comes down to personal taste. The original was a little before my time, so perhaps there is something I can't relate to in terms of how the song was written and performed. I listen to a lot of music, including stuff that far pre-dates the Golden Earing version of Radar Love, but something about their version always seemed very vanilla and boring to me. I grew up in the eighties and I know a lot of stuff was written and produced to excess, there was a ton of cheesy crap that came out during the era of hairbands, however. There was also a lot of real talent during that period of music and I always felt like White Lion was definitely a cut above most, they wrote some really great songs. Their cover of Radar Love is a far more high energy song than the original, in my opinion everything about it is better. Obviously Vito added a ton of feeling that the original lacked, but that drum solo in the original was just weak and that alone was vastly improved upon. Again, it really boils down to a personal preference and everyone is entitled to their opinions.

And that was one of the most criminally underrated comments on KZbin. You are so right. Luckily, in recent years I have noticed a big increase in the number of people (fans and content creators) giving Vito some real love. I still think his solo on “Wait” is one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. White Lion's image was soft. That didn't have an image of that hard edge of sex, drug, and rockNroll like bands like Motley Crue did. Vito is super talented guitarist and White Lion's debut album was solid, but in a world filled with hair metal bands at the time they tried to go pretty boy instead of bad boy, a decision that cost the all the bands who made that decision in the long run. They're probably healthier for it, but it killed their staying power

Jimmy page sucks!!

@@trentshepherd8736 page is one of vito's favorite guitarists, and a big influence. It's probably where he got the blues feel from, which is one thing that sets him apart from van halen imo.

If I could mod the soundtrack of my racing games (Forza Motorsport/Horizon, Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, etc.) BOTH the original 1973 Golden Earring version and this cover version is among many countless songs that I would add into the race bgm! I can easily imagine myself rocketing down an empty highway doing 200 mph in a 1980s Chevy Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe NASCAR Race Car with this blasting out the stereo! Even the very thought of it has sent an intense adrenaline rush surging through my veins like electricity through a wire, and the sensation has moved me to tears of joy! It's like I WANNA DRIVE WAY OVER THE SPEED LIMIT!!!
