So good to see that second cast on! I've had one of these for years, and I never tried the closed cast on. I can go faster on this plastic bed than my sk 155, once I get into rhythm! This is the first videos I've seen on these machines. Thank You!

+MsRabbithash I do like the latch tool cast on but also tried the E-wrap cast on with this machine, the E-wrap cast on just was not working for me, hope it does for others but I like the fact that this way, no weight or comb needed on the work, so no stretching it out from top to bottom, maybe just sideways. I know what you mean, on my Elna Bulky and also the LK150, I have to push back the end needles just a smidgeon and when I get into the rhythm of that, I can go pretty good but being careful not to catch my fingers that way. I also like the fact that it is set up for Intarsia, just the setting up of that on this machine may be the longest part. Berda

Berman your videos are GOLDEN! I have learned so much from you and three others, that it has changed everything for me with these machines. I knit by hand pretty well, but I have an SK150 that was just sitting. You helped get it out, and get that blasted sponge replaced. My childhood home girl is named Roberta and w always call her Berda. Thanks for all your hard work because you are really helping a lot of people. You need a PO Box address so we can reach you by mail.

My goodness! I have had my knitting machine for 8 years, and I never once noticed that it had needle pushers on the cast-on comb! (Just ran to my sewing room and checked, it does!) Mine is called a Finesse, but it is the same as this one except yellow :) Thanks for posting, learned a few tips!

+BethBeth BoBeth Sometimes we never get to see those little things, wish it had the 2X2 but I can use my Magic Wand or get out the needle pusher from my Elna bulky machine also. Also I did have the S9 years ago, then sold it, then had the Singer Solo and sold that one but it never occurred to me to record that machine. Then when I got the question on this machine, I actually had the opportunity to get it, so now I think I have it all. I am now cleaning up the needles and boy they look nice, so once I am done with them all, I will try it as I had a few needles that sometimes wouldn't knit properly on it but to see the cleaning solution get dark, now I know those needles needed a good cleaning. Glad you like them! I cannot wait to get this machine back, my ex is making it hard for me to get my non-marital as well as the marital items from the house as he has Jezebel living with him now. I just want my items, they can stay in what he calls a house that should be condemed.

This video has been very helpful to learn how to use my mothers old machine. I used the ravel cord method with the crochet cast on you show here which worked great. I am making a baby blanket and need to start another roll and don't know the best way. Any suggestions? Can I just start like I did with the ravel cord and weave it ino the edge later?

Do you mean casting on or joining the strips together?

Hi, I have this machine Singer and I bought an attachment for ‘ribbing’ recently. I have trouble using it. I really need help. I have only 4 pages in German as an instruction. I made several photos of it. Thank you!

Never knew this machine had a ribber. There are other machines similar that has the ribber attached but I would have to check around to see which ones those are. If you can email me at hobbyknitter at gmail dot com with those pictures, they would help me better. Now this is the bulky one, I do know there are some standard gauge machines that come double bed that are part of this same looking machines. You can get the manual at machineknittingetc.com/big-phil-superba-s9-instruction-manual.html for the machine that I have in the video, just a different name.

Hello, thank you for all your videos you are a real wealth of knowledge!! I was recently given a Singer Designer 2 machine but have been unable to find any patterns for it :( Do you have any recommendations?
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 3 жыл бұрын
That is the same as the one in my video, it comes under many names. A good place to go is look at: www.needlesofsteel.org.uk/FreePatterns.html and then in each section, look at the ones for the Bulky machine, even those under the Bond machine will work but the TD setting will have to be found to get it exact. But if you want, email me at hobbyknitter at gmail dot com and we can chat more on what you are looking for.

+Badia Ali Forgot about the MR9 also, 9 being the 9mm, same as the S9 but sometimes that number on the machine doesn't always match up to the gauge. I did clean up all the needles the other day and put in some WY and it worked like a charm, wish I had done that from the start but it will be ready for her next appearance. Berda

I have the Magic Knitter also for years now but it did not come with a counter. Do you know where i can find one? Also what kind of solution should be used to clean the needles? Love your videos! :)
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 8 жыл бұрын
+Gayle LaRue That is a shame. Other than finding one on eBay, I am not sure where else one could find this counter. Most times I like to soak the needles in a jar with Denatured Alcohol with a few drops of knitting machine oil in it. Cover the jar and move the needles around in the jar, let them sit a bit and you should see the dirt and lint come off the needles into the liquid. Then take them out of the jar and put them on some paper towel that is also on newspaper or cardboard outside or a well vented area to dry. If the latches do not seem like they got the oil, then put on rubber gloves or not and a drop of the oil on your thumb and slide the hook end between the index finger and thumb and then do the rest of them that way. It may be good to start out with R1 to R25 or so and do those only, then to the other right side needles. when you put them back in the machine, put the outside needles in the center and the ones that were in the center on the outside. That way you sort of have new needles in the middle where you do most of your work. Hope that helps, Berda

Thanks so much for the advice! I never thought of rotating the needles like that but makes total sense. Obviously you are the woman to go to for help.

Do you think an S9 or Big Phil machine counter might work?
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 8 жыл бұрын
+Gayle LaRue Allot of people do not realize that but this way you can make your needles last longer and not have to buy new ones when the middle ones start to go on you. Well I am sure there are others out there that also know this and many other tips, just glad that I can help you and others as needed. Berda

+Gayle LaRue I do not see why not, as long as it is the 9mm machine, I am pretty sure the other named machines that are the same as this one will fit. Not sure if the ones from the standard machines will but if I find out it does, I will be back to let you know. Berda

Do you like this machine better than the Bond?
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 9 жыл бұрын
+Debra Klein In a way I do like this better than the Bond, the needles do not wobble around much but the rest of it is pretty much doing the designs as if it were the Bond Machine. I still have a bond, actually 2 of them so I will probably try to find a new home for one of them once I get things straightened out a bit here. Berda

+Roberta Rose Kelley Thank you for such a speedy reply. I have a bond and a Brother standard gauge. My eyesight is poor so I tend to use the bond more often but I think this one is a bit more versatile. Is it an 8 or 9 mm machine? BTW, I love all the videos you post. They are great and very helpful.

+Debra Klein I know what you mean, I have been wearing glasses for some 40 something years and most times now, I will have to put on my reading glasses as I do not want to walk to get my bifocals. But I did find working on this machine, I didn't need to put on the reading glasses but once. Now when I am working on the Elna Bulky, I may at times need the bifocals also. This is a 9mm machine. I do like that you do not need to have any weight on the work but I am so used to doing so and hate to have stitches drop on me, I will still put on the other cast on comb or claw weights as needed. Thanks, been some, gee 9 years now since I started but with having broadband, easier to upload. I am happy to know that you also have learned from my videos but hope you watch others as well as sure they have some good tips or tricks on their machines. With the warmer temperatures coming around, I should get to more requests that I have waiting, it just was a bit cold in the computer room with only a wood stove in the middle of the home. This machine is in different names, so you should be able to find one. If not, just wait and one will pop up for sale eventually. Berda

I have seen this machine or others that are similar for sale on eBay, that is about the only place you will find some of the older machines. Or if you have any sites like kijiji or craigslist, you may find them for sale in those from time to time. This happens to be my 3rd one of this type machine and going to hold onto it for sure. Even though I may only use it from time to time, this machine tends to use a little thicker yarns than the other bulky machines do. Berda
