I have one of these in zone 7b and it is my absolute favorite fig. Highly productive and I agree that the taste is exquisite. If I could only have one fig tree, this would be it.

Agreed. The production and taste make it a must have.. first season I started it from a shoot off my grandma’s bonsai it produced five quality figs. I knew it was a keeper.

That is an awesome tree! Thanks for sharing! My daughter gave me one of those trees about a year ago and it hasn't produced any figs yet but I will keep taking care of it and maybe one day it will give some nice figs like that one! I don't know why people say the breba's aren't good. I've had plenty of them that were just as good as the main crop!

Thank you FGF. Don’t give up on this tree! It will produce. It took me 5 years just to get the main trunk established. It wanted to grow like a spider. This tree produces some candy like figs! The skin even taste like candy. Blessings

I wish you would put your zone in the title. We watch these youtubes to learn from and it's important to know where you are growing. I am in Maryland zone 7A. I have the same fig in ground but it's main crop is not ready yet.

Most of my videos state I’m in 6b. Not in the title. But I will put in the titles because I never thought of it that way.

I ordered a tissue culture last year of a VDB. Tiny little thing. Well this year it produced over a dozen main crop figs. But it’s not a VDB it’s a yellow fig with an amber inside. I tried emailing the merchant, some company called old world tropics. No answer. I tried the first couple and they were bland but when I let the others ripen until it had sugar spots and felt like jelly, wow. So much better then VDB. Researching it I came across white Madeira and Excel. I have lattarula and it’s not it. I just got a White madeira air layer hoping next year to see if it comes close.

loved this video. Great to know it's possible to ripen figs in only 4-5 hours of sunlight.

Growing for the breba, has been great! 51 lbs of breba figs picked off this one tree. Not including the main crop. They all ripened all the way through. Even the ones that weren’t exposed to sunlight.

@@forbiddenfruit.garden4672 15 year old tree! I think age is the key. I just Planted a lattarula Italian honey. How similar is it with White Marseille?

@@bmobless age with any fig tree is key. Growing them in-ground is better than container all day long! The lattarula should be different from the white Marseille. The marseille/lattarula is probably the most mislabeled fig out there. My two trees are different. (My lattarula is from Italy from my grandfather). Family tree

What other fig varieties do you recommend to grow in ground in zone 6? Do you find the main crop is affected by the excessive rains we get during the time the main crop is ready to harvest? Do you have any input on the breba crop of kadota or violette d'bordeaux grown in ground?
@forbiddenfruit.garden4672
@forbiddenfruit.garden4672 3 жыл бұрын
Best inground trees would be a mt. Etna variety (main crop), a violette de Bordeaux(main crop),peters honey (breba &main) dessert king(breba) ,brown turkey(main) Italian honey tree. These would do best in the 6b zone. That I have experience with. So many more but I personally like production along with getting it to ripen at the right time. Some other trees just won’t produce abundantly and ripen all the way because of the season here in 6b, so having to pot certain varieties is a must. Inground trees do taste better than potted tree. ESP as they age! I do have a violette de Bordeaux inground that is 16 years old and is loaded with main crop figs. I will do a review this season when the figs ripen.

@@forbiddenfruit.garden4672 do you not get any breba on your inground violette d bordeaux? In regards to taste and productivity, do you prefer the white marsielles above all the other inground trees you have?

@@sunnysharma1701 I do not get breba on my vdb anymore. I have had the breba when the tree was younger, I personally wasn’t impressed with the taste and texture of the fig. But since it produces main crop on every node it doesn’t produce breba. Which I’m ok with. Hard question which inground I prefer! My favorite inground tree is my family heirloom black Italian fig. It’s been in my family over 90 years in America and however long in Calabria Italy. It’s a mt. Etna variety but it taste better than all other mt. Etna s I’ve had. That is my favorite out of all trees. I have a Instagram under same name. If you want to check my family tree figs.
