White maxi dress - Sewing Tutorial - Beginner friendly low back summer Dress

Hello hello and welcome back to another video!! Today we are making one of my favourite dresses ever - the Sterre Dress.
This beginner friendly sewing tutorial is perfect if you want to learn how to make a dream maxi dress for summer front start to finish.
You can download the digital sewing pattern from my website and either print it out in A4, A0 or US Letter.

I would recommend using muslin cotton for this project, alternatively you could also use viscose or rayon or a viscose and linen blend.

If you neither have a loop turner or a safety pin, you can also use a piece of thread. Before you start to sew your strap just backstitch 1 cm on the top of your strap an pull out enough thread for the whole length of your strap and sandwich it in between. Now sew the sides of your strap and then pull on the long piece of thread to turn the strap inside out. I hope I explained it well enough and this could help :) depending on the length of your strap this wastes a bit thread, but maybe you could use it at a later time for hand sewing

I used muslin cotton, you could also use 100% viscose or a linen and viscose blend :)

I have one question. Why do you press open the seams, but put them together again to overlock them?

It makes seam on the outside of the dress look much nicer :) I also have a beginners guide video here on KZbin where I explain it a bit :)

The sewing pattern says you need 3 meters of fabric. I assume that’s the length but how wide does the fabric have to be?

Most likely it’s an average bolt length ! I wouldn’t stress over it
