I’m a retired ER nurse. Worked in several states and many medical facilities. Having a hard time wrapping my mind around allowing her back to work with neonates again after a year with paid time off???!! Paid time off? Really???In Virginia?! I live in Henrico County Va. The hospital name is Parham Doctors Hospital on Parham Road use to be named Henrico Doctors hospital. This hospital is in the west end of Henrico where most white, other cultures and 30% blacks . I am going to leave this right here: These specialty units are known for gatekeeping (not hiring or limiting the hiring of black nurses). Stories like this make you feel helpless, but we are not. When you are visiting family member on these specialty units (ICU, NICU, Labor and Delivery) take note of the demographics of the unit and inquire about why the population of patients doesn't match the personell.
