Repo Man is a stone cold classic. So much great quotable dialogue.

Loved the book when I read it back then. Not sure it translates well to film, or to 2022, for that matter. Repo Man, on the other hand, is a unique and powerful work of art with great performances and a wonderful sense of the absurd and, at times, a kind of Coen-brothers-y vibe that keeps it fun, still, after all this time. And, you know, Harry Dean Stanton...being Harry Dean Stanton. It was released 2 years before another absolute classic by its director, Alex Cox - Sid and Nancy - which features what is still one of my favorite Gary Oldman performances.

i'm getting a kind of charlie kaufman feel at the beginning - white noise is yet again a fine summation of our times, the number of channels and media continue to propagate into more and more chaos, but i guess life always feels like chaos - authoritarian men of power in dark times, sound familiar? - sometimes i'm surprised at how little many things in our consumer society have changed the past 50 years; tech has changed but most rhythms are the same - ... enjoying first 15 minutes 👍

I was looking forward to this film but upon watching it, couldn’t make it through the film. It wasn’t clear in what it was trying to say and I quickly got bored of aesthetic. A shame.

I really enjoyed squid , meyerowitz, and marriage story but this one not so much.. I can't believe I finished the dang thing. Big disappointment but maybe I'll like it better in years to come

conspiracy, chaos, superstition, facts, misinformation ... dread, life, death, paranoia, and a fool to give in and a fool to try

I thought Marriage Story was mediocre, but it was also early in my film enjoyment so I'll probably like it more now. I'll check out The Squid and the Whale before White noise then, good review!

Marriage Story -- couldn't stand it. On the other hand, The Squid and the Whale is a straight up masterpiece.

I admit I had never heard of the book but now will search it out. Having said that, I did quite enjoy the movie until about 2/3s of the way through - the quirky dialogue and I liked the color palette - it seemed to fit the off-beat humor. The dialogue reminded me of Gilmore Girls if directed by Wes Anderson. The movie seemed to jump tracks or lose focus for the last third and I did wonder what they were getting at. I want to like this movie more and will give it another go. Absolutely loved Repo man.

maybe the last 1/3 was kind of required to wrap up the novel, don't know, but it did drag w/ everything regarding the wife's psychosis and the hotel scene, etc. as little as i understand delillo i think the movie did a decent job capturing the post-modern paranoia and fragmented realities.

This movie felt random, i didnt dislike it but i cant say i like it nor understand what is about, i guess the director tried to apply a formula that didnt work , perhaps if the movie focused more on the crisis to give the audience a sense of urgency instead of making it comedic, it would have been a more compeling story, i guess i have to read the novel to truly understand what went wrong here

This was often regarded as one of the most unadaptable books as far as making it into a film, and that’s the most obvious takeaway from the movie itself I think

The point of the movie has flown far of your head mate. You clearly have not understood one single thing about the film.

I agree. In this case it feels like a video saying I don't get it and I haven't read the book or read anything about it either. Not the best video.

@@stephenkeen5737 At least the videos saying “I don’t get it” is marginally better than the videos saying “it sucked!!” or jumping straight to “this was predictive programming from Them~~”
