Yes, because of the year you were born. When you....sorry, WE entered school we lived in an analogue world. Computers werent everywhere and Sega Genesis and Nintendo NES were King. Do you really think it fair for them to be expected to predict where technology has taken us and just how fast it took us there? When's the last time you physically wrote a letter? Our teachers who taught us that would shit bricks seeing what we have today if you could time travel.

Studies show that basic practice of skills that require focus and cognitive function develop the neural connections in the brain. This leads to increased cognitive function, plus the added skill children get from practicing cursive. I dont mind if you dont want to learn it, but cursive definitely has many advantages which children can definitely use.

Lol, the sad part is that the actual conversation is basically: "So we're trying to make them memorize answers for the meaningless standardized tests that determine how much funding we get and praying that more of them care enough to get good scores than last year?" "Yeah that sounds right." "What about the SAT?" "Oh, the rich kids will have their parents pay for prep, it's not like the rest of them need to go to university to get a degree in janitorial services."
@InfernosReaper
@InfernosReaper Жыл бұрын
Basically, but since there are so many colleges, people who shouldn't go to college do and enough of them get degrees, which oversaturates the job market. Now, places want 4 year degrees for jobs that require a 2 year degree *at most*

@@Sputterbugz Certifications vs degrees Honestly, spending x years getting degrees system really doesn't jive well with most jobs, but for some reason we're stuck on this "college is needed for this and if it doesn't need college, it's low-skill" mindset brought to us by college marketing and general snobbery.

My high school had an Auto Tech course available for all 4 years and it helped me greatly. There were numerous other programs that were electives too that were incredibly helpful, like keyboarding class. I was a chicken pecker before that and now I've completed a thesis in my master's program. Sadly, none of these helpful programs were part of the core curriculum nor were they encouraged by any of the teachers. Hell, I didn't learn how to write a check until my senior year when a teacher decided to spend a class day educating us about that. She didn't even have to do that but honestly it just makes me feel embarrassed about how poor education can be when it comes to practical, real-life application.

I was on the flip side of that: upper class middle school to ghetto high school. My mom sent me to the ghetto for high school so I wouldn't be a snob... I actually like ghetto people more now because they're not fake nice but more real, but they were also less conscientious. This goes hand and hand with how studious you are. The students didn't care at my hs. You were being "white" if you studied. No one did their work, so everyone passed. Not to say there weren't resources since we did have the best calculus team in state. That teacher ended up leaving because she was known as a "bitch" for actually teaching math; she went to a white school... Along with all the teachers who cared! Another math teacher (who also left) ended up getting a program affiliated with the community College which trained students in construction or auto with accreditation. Smart since it seems to be working, but the biggest driver of education and inequality is culture, not school resources!

In my experience and paired with what pretty much everyone else has told me about their school experiences, these are the issues: -Overemphasizing the importance of high level mathematics if not purely to chase the clout Eastern countries were receiving for their high math scores -A good focus on English but a complete failure to help students understand why English is important and how it can help them in their daily lives -History, another good subject to know, is generally favoristic. I'm not just talking about the focus on America, but outright misportraying events in American history through a black and white lens. This is not only making people fucking stupid but they're using these inaccuracies to justify stupid social activist movements. Imagine killing your neighbor because a game of telephone led to you misconstruing "I helped your wife after she tripped" for "I fucked your wife after she tripped" and that's about where we are right now -A complete lack of classes that teach genuinely fucking helpful adult skills like when and when not to take loans, how to dress and behave not just for social interactions but for job interviews, how to budget yourself, etc. "That's what the parents are for", listen normally I wouldn't argue on behalf of the state overriding parents, but it doesn't hurt to retread familiar territory for those that have learned and it ONLY helps for kids growing up in shitty households -Debate. No really. Just have people go to mandatory debate classes. People these days have lost the ability to take any form of criticism or dissent and the social ramifications of this are staggering. People need to learn how to disagree with each other and be okay with that. You know, WITHOUT going at each other's throats like it's a gladiatorial match And the absolute biggest one: -MAKING LEARNING FUN Jesus fucking christ, learning doesn't have to be BORING. That was a LIE. The way lessons are taught is in the most barebones, least engaging way possible. No wonder retention is awful, people are regurgitating mind numbing amounts of homework and mental jargon without being shown how it can be applied practically or how it can even be used for fun hobbies. Me? I fucking hated math growing up. It wasn't until I started playing DND and using Roll 20 where I had to script my own macros that I learned math can be used for incredibly fun hobbies. You could literally teach an entire course on just how to practically apply complex math equations to a boardgame. Meanwhile Duolingo is teaching me faster and in a more engaging way than ANY of my language courses ever did.

wouldn't it be "I fucked your wife after she stripped" though? Oh, and speaking of D&D, that did what high school computer courses couldn't: care about learning how to do stuff in Word and Excel Hell, spreadsheet is fantastic for character sheets and running games(especially after you fancy up the formatting a bit to make it easier on the eyes). Also, I've found that the 2 column format works wonders for making documents easier to read

I only disagree with making learning fun. I want it to be effective, yes, to be taught long memory, yes, but if its fun then you are conditioning yourself to only learn stuff that is fun, and its important to develop the ability to focus in shit you dont like because thats a skill you inevitably will have to use as an adult

It’s the sad truth. My high school had wood shop, culinary classes, and graphic design. I did the two culinary classes and graphic design classes (not by choice), but I never did wood shop despite wanting to. You would have to sign up for other courses or advance courses at a trade school outside of the school that hold classes during school hours. In order to get approval, you have to ask multiple teachers to sign a letter of recommendation to be considered for those classes with limited spots. Long story short, I did not make the cut for any classes and ended up graduating without any exposures to the careers I was interested in. That’s the life of being in a black school. Outside of poor quality education and outdated textbooks, you have limited choices and those choices don’t teach you passed a beginners level. So I ended up going to community college where I had to learn the hard way that the career I settled for was not right for me. Plus, I had to make up for the dog shite education I was cursed with.

RDC,Lenarr, Griffy, Caleb, and Hardstop Lucas are the goats of making skits. They all gave me inspiration to start creating skits. Tell me what I can improve on...
