While doing research for our trip to Vermillion Cliffs National Monument in Arizona, White Pocket came up as an alternative to the famous Wave. Not only does White Pocket not require a permit to visit, but it also holds its own as far as breathtaking landscapes and surreal terrains. Although it is not the easiest to get to, this place is worth every second of navigating through the long and deep sandy roads. White Pocket is a photographer’s dream. I swear I had to drag Dustin back to the car before it got too dark for us to find our way back.

I stayed solo there two days and three nights mid November 2021 and yes there was a small archeology site. There is a box canyon you need to explore to the east. Living in Utah I am used to the rocky washboard backroads but the sand was no challenge to my 02 4runner. The full moon lit up my tent each night so that erased all the star gazing. Went out south to 89A which is longer but toward Jacob Lake it is alpine scenery.

Your math needs help! If you stayed 3 nights, than you were there for 3 days also genius

I think he is not including the travel to and from as “days”; below might be an example starting on a Monday: M: Drive to WP, first night camp. Tu: Explore WP, second night camp. W: Explore more of WP, third night camp. Th: Drive back. That is 4 days if you count the two driving days (M and Th), but only 2 days if you do not.

We didn't do this, but we were just out by the Vermillion Cliffs. Being from New York city area, we learned a lot more about desolation on this trip than we ever have, which we are getting used to, but still scares us. This looks beautiful and like it's not crowded. Totally coming back to do this!

It's definitely a whole new different world out there compare to New York. We always packed all sort of self-rescue items just in case. Hopefully, you guys get to come back and do it. If you feel unsure, there are tours that offer to drive you out there. 😊

Great info!. I have a decent amount of offroad experience, but more in major mud than sand.. I'm renting a Subaru Crosstrek (AWD) for this trip and I'm pretty certain we'd be fine.. but getting stuck with 3 small kids would suck. I think we'd be fine if the weather is good, but " waist deep quick sand" concerns me lol

@@LiveThatAdventureDone!!, but not with the vehicle we expected, but with a brand new Cadillac Escalade 600. It has worked great for us in 4Hi traction and offroad mode activated. At no time have we gotten stuck, even though on House Rock Valley Road we did begin to have doubts due to the huge puddles of mud from the storms the night before. But finally we reached the Cottonwood car park without problems, we visited the recommended points and returned to the hotel. Thank you very much again for your advice.

You go over pass to Pakoon to mud mountain area to wolf hole up black rock or not, then to school house, up to Trumbull, Toroweap. Way better than white pocket. Or you can go in Bunkerville over Whitney Pass. Hot sand is harder to drive than cold. Seriously watch the Hurricane UT recovery guy videos. Or call him. The BLM outdoor rec managers know all. Except weather conditions.

Great video. 👍 You can go in Limekiln down to left and there are nice formations. Don't go up backside of Black Rock. Awful road. 😖 Get the map. The big one. BLM AZ STRIP FIELD OFFICE maybe you can get it online now.

@@headlessspaceman5681 first off, we aren't cashing in on a well kept secret. After failing to get the permit for the wave, the ranger told us about this spot and gave us a pamphlet about it. Secondly, this is public land meant for everyone's enjoyment. We always advocate for responsible recreation and practicing leave no trace. And lastly we are trying to do the right thing by giving people that are planning to visit a realistic expectation of what to expect. On your next visit would you prefer to be stuck behind a family trying to get out there in a sedan? I doubt it. I wouldn't be so quick to judge people and their intentions without knowing what you are talking about. Have a good one, and don't forget to like comment and subscribe 🤣🤙
