We lost ours of 15 years last year. Just now getting over it and contemplating getting another. She was our everything. Beautiful, loyal, protective, and knew exactly what everyone was feeling. She was always there for us.

I am getting a White Swiss Shepherd.I grew up with GSD's. I' found this breed by accident and I'm very happy that I did. I was lucky enough to find a breeder only 2 hours from me. I expect to bring my new pup home sometime this summer!! (2023)

I'm planning to get a WGSD. I'm looking for some help understanding how to choose one. Some Veteran said that American GSD will get hip and elbow dysplasia over age and pure bred GSD will not get the dysplasia over time. What do you say about this when it comes to WGSD ? Is there a way we can understand the chances of dysplasia for a new born puppy ? I found a back yard breeder who has couple of white puppies from the regular black and brown GSDs (Mom and Dad). I'm confused how two regular colored dogs get a white puppy. Any theory on this ? Can I go for it ? or should I go for a registered breeder for pure bred ? What makes the difference ? I sincerely appreciate any suggestions and clarifications. Thanks.

If both parents have recessive white genes then they can throw a white puppy or two in the litter.
@shreklordofogres6508 Жыл бұрын
best to steer clear of back yard breeders, often they don't have health clearances and have unethical practices. Also if they're claiming white came from brown/black they're not being truthful. White are basically a distinct breed descended from GSD.
@jacksweetow2574 Жыл бұрын
100% go for a registered breeder. They can and should only breed dogs with negative or slightly positive medical tests.

Are they the same with the white German?
@minanimals Жыл бұрын
No, the White Swiss Shepherd and the German Shepherd are not the same. They are distinct breeds with differences in coat color, origins, recognition, purpose, and temperament.

@minanimals Жыл бұрын
@@mel999. The White Swiss Shepherd Dog, also known as the Berger Blanc Suisse, is a breed that shares its origins with the German Shepherd. The history of the White Swiss Shepherd Dog can be traced back to the early 20th century when the German Shepherd breed was being developed in Germany. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, there was a growing interest in developing a herding dog breed that could excel in various tasks such as herding, guarding, and serving as a versatile working dog. Captain Max von Stephanitz is credited with founding the German Shepherd breed in 1899, and his dog, Horand von Grafrath, is considered the first German Shepherd. During the early stages of German Shepherd breeding, coat color was not a primary consideration, and the breed exhibited a variety of colors, including white. However, as the breed standard evolved, the focus shifted toward the traditional black and tan coloration. In the mid-20th century, some breeders sought to preserve the white coat coloration in German Shepherds, and these dogs eventually became the foundation for the White Swiss Shepherd Dog. However, the breed's recognition as a separate entity took some time. Different kennel clubs and breed organizations had varying opinions on the acceptance of the white coat color. In 1933, the Swiss Shepherd Club (Schweizer Schäferhunde Verein or SSV) officially recognized white-coated German Shepherds as a separate variety. The breed was then known as the White German Shepherd. Over time, breed enthusiasts in Switzerland and other countries continued to selectively breed white-coated dogs to develop the White Swiss Shepherd Dog as a distinct breed. In 2011, the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), an international canine organization, officially recognized the White Swiss Shepherd Dog as a separate breed under the name Berger Blanc Suisse. Today, the breed is recognized by various kennel clubs around the world and is appreciated for its intelligence, versatility, and striking appearance. It's important to note that breed standards may vary slightly among different kennel clubs.

@@minanimals Yeah, so basically, they are German shepherds who had a name change.

genetically there are few differences between Swiss Shepherds and GSDs, but the AKC does not classify a white coat as an acceptable coat color, and their temperaments are different. GSDs are much more territorial and Swiss shepherds rarely show any signs of aggression. Swiss also don't have the iconic sloping back. Basically they are cousins. @@claire98

I got a Swiss shepherd, he’s a really smart dog, but he has a lot of energy, and is too excited when meeting new people, which can scare them. Does anyone who has this dog know what I should do to help his behavior?
@minanimals11 ай бұрын
It's great that you have a smart White Swiss Shepherd, but managing their high energy levels and overexcitement can be a challenge. Here are some tips to help with your dog's behavior: Exercise and Mental Stimulation: Ensure your Swiss Shepherd gets enough physical exercise and mental stimulation. Long walks, playtime, and puzzle toys can help tire them out and channel their energy in a positive way. Basic Obedience Training: Invest time in basic obedience training. Teach commands like sit, stay, and calm behavior. Consistent training can help your dog understand how to behave in different situations. Socialization: Gradually expose your dog to various environments, people, and situations to improve their social skills. Controlled introductions to new people can help reduce overexcitement. Desensitization: Work on desensitizing your dog to triggers that cause excitement. For example, practice calm behavior when guests arrive by rewarding them for staying calm and not jumping. Reward Good Behavior: Positive reinforcement is crucial. Reward your dog for good behavior, whether it's being calm around guests or following commands. This encourages them to repeat the desired actions. Redirect Energy: Provide toys or engage in activities that redirect your dog's energy. Interactive toys and games can be effective in keeping them occupied in a positive way. Consistency is Key: Be consistent with your training and expectations. Dogs thrive on routine and consistency, so make sure everyone in the household is on the same page regarding rules and commands. Seek Professional Help: If the behavior issues persist or worsen, consider consulting a professional dog trainer or behaviorist. They can provide personalized guidance based on your dog's specific needs. Remember, patience is crucial in training any dog. With consistent effort and positive reinforcement, you can help your White Swiss Shepherd develop better behavior and become a well-mannered companion.
