Challenge: Play against Martin, but every time you win, remove a point of material from your side. You can choose how to remove it. Start from 39 points, then 38, 37, 36, and so on as you keep winning. Find out how low your material can get before Martin can beat you. Can you win with just a pawn or two?

What if the black king moves to C1 in this position? 5:03 Preparing the promote the pawn with D1 instead of pushing the pawn to A2. The bishop is unable to stop it and if the bishop tries to check the black king, the king can simply capture it. Shouldn't it be still a win for black?
@elendarulianreo

Bg5 pins the pawn. After a2, Bxd2+, and the bishop is just in time to move to c3 and cover the queening square. If Ke1 instead of c1, you can either play Bc3, leading to the same idea, or Bh4+. On the latter, black has to either go back to c1, leading to a repetition, or go to f1, allowing Kxd2. After a2, Bf5 stops the pawn.

Challenge idea: Play Martin but every pawn is a chess speedrunner. Every 3 moves you must move at least one pawn forward (whether through capturing or pushing). If you fail to do this you lose. Pawns also want the fastest time possible so you must play in bullet time with 1 minute to win and you may only win the game with a promoted pawn.

Hey I am not able to understand when black king was at e1 why we can not place our bishop at a5 and use our king to reach other pawn by king c2,b2/3 as per what black play
@Laezar1
@Laezar1 Жыл бұрын
Because the king can move out of the pine and threaten to make a queen on d1, if you take the pawn then the knight take and it can then move to c4 after the pawn is moved to a3 (which you have time for the king would reach it just then) and that protects the pawn, you can take the knight but that makes you too slow to stop the pawn and the black king can then slowly come in to protect the pawn and let the knight move out of it's position to force you away and force the pawn to promote
@idea_list
@idea_list Жыл бұрын
Help! 1:01 - I really can't see, why I can't play king to d3. Doesn't it kinda solve the problem with lack of time to control both pawns? UPD Or, nevermind, i'm just blind
@raymat1774
@raymat1774 Жыл бұрын
if king to d3 is played, then the sequence of moves could go like this. pawn a2, knight takes a2 (basically forced), pawn d1, and black promotes to a queen before you could get the pawn with your king.

The one thing I don't like about these videos is when looking at the wrong lines, you usually only look at the most obvious, obviously wrong follow-up, which makes sense since you're trying to not make it too long, but it leaves me frequently wondering "okay but what if you follow it up with a move that's not stupid?" Like for example, at 2:11, why can't you just play Bd2+ and then Kc2 looking to stop that pawn? Yes, the knight can capture the bishop, but then what? If black plays Kd1 instead of capturing, then Kc3 instead and either way I'm not seeing a way you can be stopped from blockading the pawn, though I'm sure there's a problem with all this I'm just failing to see.
@lenalittle4193
@lenalittle4193 Жыл бұрын
No he don't look at the most obviously wrong follow up, he look at the best alternative move, he can not cover every single move. Normally he gives the FEN in the description, you can explore other moves on a analysis board for free, on Lichess for example. The white king can not stay in the corner because of the knight. 4. Ba5 Nf3 5. Bxd2+ Nxd2 6. Kc2 a3 7. Kc1 Nc4 8. Kb1 Kd2 9. Ka2 Kc3 10. Ka1 Kb3 11. Kb1 Ne3 12. Ka1 Nc2+ 13. Kb1 a2+ 14. Kc1 a1=Q+

@@lenalittle4193 Ah, that makes sense, thank you. I usually try to visualize the lines he doesn't talk about and usually I manage to do so and it's just some minor tedium, but this one was beyond my pay grade. Also, to be clear, I do fully understand he can't reasonably look at every single line in every single position, my complaint was that sometimes the lines that do get looked at are a little questionable, at least in my opinion.
