This is the official music video for White Town’s 1997 global hit ‘Your Woman’.
IT'S NOT STAR WARS!!! In the '90s, I bought the CD soundtrack for Dennis Potter's 'Pennies From Heaven' and on it was an amazing 1932 song called 'My Woman,' by Lew Stone And The Monseigneur Band, vocal by Al Bowlly. (This itself was a cover of the original by none other than Bing Crosby!) And that song started with a beautiful trumpet hook...
My track was the first to sample that catchy hook and it's now been sampled by Dua Lipa in her new track “Love Again”.
‘Your Woman’ reached number 1 in the charts in the UK, Spain and Iceland, and was Top 10 in 12 other countries as well as reaching number 23 in the US Billboard chart.

Gawd I was 19 when this came out - now 45! My 11-year-old son was playing Love Again by Dua Lipa earlier today, so had to look this up... The incredible thing is both Love Again and Your Woman are based on a sample of Lew Stone and Al Bowlly's 1932 recording "My Woman" - which was one of my late grandma's favourite songs! Such a timeless piece of music that has entertained and enamoured several generations of my family - I like the Dua Lipa song too, and really like White Town, but LOVE the original Stone / Bowlly song! Just shows that truly great music always stands the test of time, and that music has no expiry date or age limit😮

A masterpiece. Human relationships summarised in four minutes. It evokes perfectly the feelings of desperation and impending doom of being in love with a partner who doesn’t feel the same way. I remember not being a fan of this song when it first started blowing up. Couldn't tell you why, judgemental youth or something. But wow has it really grown on me over the years! @@JyotiMishra Neat. I always wondered and I used to speculate (along with someone I talked to at the office at the time the song was a hit) as to whether the bass could have been a tuba. The roughness in tone quality sounded a little like a beginning tuba player or come to think of it even expert tuba players have that rough sound on low notes. It is a perfect counterpart to the trumpet, symmetry in brass, even if it was not an actual tuba.

I've been a fan of this song (and by extension, Mr. Mishra) since I was a teenager in the 90s. Now that I'm a musician working out of my house, it's music like this that makes me understand just how much can be done with music and how important it is to never stop pulling sounds in new directions. Beyond that, this video -- particularly the moment where the protagonist comes to the realization that she doesn't need a man to be happy -- gives me chills every single time I watch it. I'm so happy that it's gotten the respect it deserves over the years.
