I always enjoy the big rig kits, when I was a kid I remember Overdrive magazine having the model of the month contest. It was a magazine for truckers, and I always thought that was a neat section.

Another example of one method to model building success. Not right. Not wrong. But a tried and true, step by step path to assured fun with minimal frustration. Thanks again - it's a BEAUTY.

As a long-haul truck driver for 22 years - I don't ever remember "making" my bed in the sleeper. No one but me was ever in it. I like the idea of some after market parts paks for these kits. The "pogo stick" and the red & blue air lines would be a nice touch. Finally, on the 1 to 1 rigs - the fuel tanks do not have seams like this kit. A certain amount of skill to remove the seams and repaint in a gun metal shade would fit the bill nicely. Over all, it looks like this was re-released as a pretty good rendition.

My dad was a diesel mechanic who worked for White Trucks in Chicago for years. I grew up around the shop and the Western Star was one of my favorites.....probably 2nd behind the Road Boss

From 1971 until they moved to Alsip I spent hours every Friday night going through micro- fiche slides trying to get parts at White on 39th and Ashland. Our most awesome truck was a long hood Road Boss. Looked very similar to this Star.

Very well done on the Western Star 4964 Chris! My first model kits that I built back in 2002-2003 while finishing high school were the Italeri heavy truck kits and I must say that they are definitely the most detailed and easiest to build! Within the last 3 years, I've built a few of their Euro semi tractors too! I am glad to see AMT bringing these out! I need to grab this one! FYI that 4964 is a 1980's era with a Cummins 400 BC!

Why would anyone say anything negative about your builds? You are simply doing review build ups. Showing us what is in these kits and what to expect if there is any factory misprints or defects. And you tell us that you're not going into great painting details. Mainly due to the time factor. I say to hell with them. Chris you rock this crap. You videos are excellent and extremely informative and entertaining 👏 👍 😀

Oh yeah and I love how you are able to paint them in the amount of time you have...especially the patina and worn out ones. Like the green 69 Camaro. Keep them moving bud.I have nothing bad to say about you Chris, even when you might not say something exactly correct. I know what you mean.

Absolutely gorgeous truck; I love them especially big rigs like this. I guess, this is yet the best model ever technically speaking. That front grill and general molding makes a great model. Building the cab and chassis along with suspension from zero it takes a lot of nerve as could end up deformed or not really well finished. What is most impressive about your building technique is you didn't need any kind of jig to make fit the whole thing at the end. You even remind me that I should get a visor for my "Pete" 357 all in red from chassis to hubcaps, to body and interiors. I like very much chassis matching body color. If you watch truck shows, you'll notice that almost are like I say so I decided to build and paint mine, same color overall. Try it Chris, bet you wont feel down once the work is done. Well, my dear Sensei, you are now "3rd DAN blackbelt". Congrats and thanks for such a gift.

New to the channel. Subscribed right away. After 42 years owning, driving, and wrenching I'm retired with time on my hands. Ordered the Transtar 4070A kit. It will be my first build. Can anyone refer me to basic tip type videos or will I learn enough watching Chris' videos? Common rookie mistakes? ModPodge? When and where? Super glue. When and why? I'll travel to a model shop in the city when the kit arrives. What will I need to pick up as a first time builder? Thanks for the content.

Them tires are nicely detailed, maybe you can't sand them but you can dust them with chalks. Great dash decal and chassis stickers. And WOW look at that grill, the mirror brackets look closer to scale too. All the above, (except grill) would be great aftermarket parts. I like to model in the 50's 60's and 70's time period but MAN! This kit looks like a Damn Enjoyable build. I may have to get it anyway.

Looks pretty good thankd for the review and tutorial! I built a Western Star similar to this last year and I agree it is a great building kit and fits nicely together. Having also built Italeri's Freightliner FLC I can attest that kit fights with this one for no.2 spot on the easiest and best looking kits out there. The Western Star and Freightliner kits have to be on your list if you're looking for great looking and nice building kits out of the box!

Thanks for this brilliant video, it couldn't come at a better time !!!! I bought from a model swapmeet the 1989 Italeri version of this kit in mint condition for 40 English pounds. The tyres are plastic and the sleeper has eybrow windows. I've built my cab and the rest of the kit the same way that you have. Oh, I also use Rustoleum paint. Great review, just love your channel. Wishing you, Chris a Merry Christmas a Happy and Healthy New Year from Great Britain.👍👍👍👍👍

Speaking of hood hinges, I have the 1/25 scale Western Star in Coca-Cola livery and the hinges on that were very difficult and the hood won't even open all the way but you can still see the engine just fine from a side/back view.
@karlturon427
@karlturon427 Жыл бұрын
Looks good Chris... by the way the "extra" visor in chrome will not fit the Star. It's for the Freightliner FLC and that's because all Italeri rigs are based on the first issue Freightliner and all kits followed suit after that with the same frames, tanks, battery boxes suspension, diffs and the same Cummins 400 engine. The exceptions are the Peterbilt 377/378 issues with true Peterbilt frame, suspension and Detroit 60 Series engines. Cheers :)

Excellent job. I've never considered a truck model even though they have looked interesting in the past - mainly because of the lack of room to display one. This build looks so easy I may just go and try it - or at least some other one. Speaking of space - where do you store/display all these models from your build reviews?? Another OUTSTANDING job, as usual. Is the 1/24th or 1/25th bigger?
@nickbilleck1107
@nickbilleck1107 Жыл бұрын
The smaller the second number means the bigger the scale. 1/16th is bigger than 1/24th. 👍
@hpiguy
@hpiguy Жыл бұрын
Correct, as Nick says, 1/24th would be the length of the regular truck divided by 24. 1/25 would be the truck divided into 25 equal pieces. 1/6th scale would be the truck divided into only 6 huge pieces. (This is just a very simple way of thinking of it) The higher the number, the smaller the pieces as you 'cut it up'.
@nickbilleck1107
@nickbilleck1107 Жыл бұрын
Another way as I understand it is: 1/25=1inch on the model equals 25inches on the actual vehicle. 👍

How long does it actually take to build a model
@hpiguy
@hpiguy Жыл бұрын
Completely depends on the person and how detailed they want to be or how much experience they have. Don't compare how long it takes someone else to how long it takes you, that ruins the hobby for too many people. I build fast and I build hundreds of models, and I don't sweat every tiny detail, rivet or color so I got this truck done in two days.
