Wow this is incredible.👏 How long is this culture been going and average time for a starter colony to produce this amount? Can you freeze the surplus extras for later feedings when in colony isn't in large amounts?

This culture container has been going for 4-6 months. I get great production out of new containers within a month. But I put thousands of worms into a new culture. Try to get a starting culture from someone in a fish club. In my opinion, a culture bought through the mail will be heat or cold damaged and way to small to ever amount to much. My opinion. I have purchased several from different people over the years just to see what they are shipping and how. Always tried to get a culture going. Always a fail. Which is why I will not ship.

I stopped using the bread yeast method, just didn’t have many come from it plus he bread would seen]m to go fungussy only after several days? I’m back to using softened cat biccies now and don’t get heaps of worms, like 1/1000th of your produce lol😂 But it’s enough to feed my 6 peas and chilli rasboras (along with my Sewellia Lineolata shlooping up some too) I don’t know who enjoys my white worms more, me or the fish!? “Shhh I actually DO know who , MEEEEEE” it’s a great way to relax n find peace in my mind by sitting a couple times a day just gently tweezering the lil guys up n popping them near their food. Infact I have to force myself to put the containers back in their wine fridge, YES! I went n bought them their very own lil wine fridge home 😍🤪🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🏠💙💙💙💙💙💙

I found a few white worm sized potworms in my compost worm bin. Hopefully I’ll get a good population without a cooler.

DO YOU STILL SHIP WHITEWORM CULTURE.?

When you scrape the mesh to collect the worms doesnt that leave damaged ones still in the container? Do they die off and rot and pollute the culture causing it to crash faster?
@djrramsey
@djrramsey 3 ай бұрын
You would think that could be a problem but I have not seen it. If you are concerned, give the mesh a rinse into the container that you are already putting the worms to feed into.

Hi David. Did you try cooked or ground rice instead of bread?
@GrowAndEatThis
@GrowAndEatThis Ай бұрын
We don't eat rice so I could not test that if I wanted to. Rice might work, but far less nutritious than a good whole wheat breat with nutritional yeast. But give it a try and let us know how it works.
@rafikgl

@@GrowAndEatThis this guy "Patriot Coin rings" tried it and it works amazing. You can add the yeast and yoghurt to the rice after you cook it with the added benefit that it doesn't rot so fast as bread.

I only sell locally. I am a member of the Atlanta Aquarium fish club. Stopped shipping because it so rarely worked out.

Hi David, I'm using your method but I keep having problems with white hair looking mold and the colony doesn't seem to be growing nothing like yours. I used potting soil with some peat moss. I use the GV brand of Whole milk plain yogurt and nutritional yeast flakes. I keep them in a little fridge @ 55 degrees. Also they never climb up the side of the shoebox. They just stay under the substrate. Any suggestions what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

the white cottony stuff should lift out and you can toss it. Usually only lasts a few day. If you drink pepperment tea or chamomille tea spray some of that on the cottony stuff. Flattens it out and will knock it back till it isn't a problem. Try changing the bread brand. I was happily using the cheaper Aldi brand whole wheat bread and suddenly the worms stopped growing. Went back to the older bread and thy started off again.

@@GrowAndEatThis Thanks for the tip. I do have both of those teas on hand and will give it a try and will switch the bread.👍

I have used the basically same method for 20 years. Other methods will work, just does not get the amount of worms that this does.

Not grindal worms. White worms. Totally different in size, feeding and temperature requirements.
@chevyfish4028

They are whiteworms. Grindal worms are much smaller and don't need refrigeration. Hope this helps.

Its amazing if you can get mite free worms. I never could get a mite free sample to start so I gave up. 😢 but i always followed your advice on feeding the worms. Thanks for always showing what you do. Hope you have many fish to use up that harvest! 😊
@professorm4171
@professorm4171 Жыл бұрын
Mites are harmless but you can scoop or wash them out. I raise compost worms and found Neem cakes/ground Neem to help reduce their numbers. Also when I harvest the castings via the sun method, that wiped out the mites population.
@hillbillyorchids
@hillbillyorchids Жыл бұрын
@professorm4171 Mites took over my worms badly. I tried removing them without luck. Never tried neem cakes. I use neem oil on my orchids 😂 probably different stuff. I never heard of sun method. Is that for compost worms?
@professorm4171
@professorm4171 Жыл бұрын
@@hillbillyorchids You leave the pile of bedding out in the sun. The worms hate the sun so they move down. You scoop off the bedding, then wait another 20 minutes, and repeat. You scoop away the mites and eggs. The mites die off when dry too.
