WHITE WX42 Amrep MSL

Ever since EDCO got this little HOA down the street from me i've dreamed of getting to see 222 run this route. For that very reason I check here every week that I can just to make sure 222 isn't here as a spare even though it is so unlikely since they have many other spares they would take here before this truck. Yesterday I decided to come check to see what was doing this route and right as I pull in at the end of the very first alley I look down I see the end of this truck. You can imagine the excitement I had knowing how unlikely it is for them to have actually sent this truck here. He was already almost done with this area when I got here, so I got as much as I could in the amount he had left. I tried to get more footage of this truck at another HOA it does later, but they were so behind they didn't even end up getting to it until the next day in a different truck. Hopefully I will get to see this truck again before it's retired for good, but with how infrequently it runs it's unlikely.
Huge thanks to the awesome driver for letting me film, even while having a hard day in this truck.

Thats so awesome you finally were able to find this truck. Always a great feeling when you find that one thing you've been looking for for so long. I appreciate the originality of the cab in that there are no luxuries, padding, just a steering wheel and pedals. Not to mention that iconic hydraulic whine of the packer. It actually kind of looks like the entire right hand side of the cab came from a different truck or was custom made for low entry. Especially the flat and boxier edges. Great job with this one - I always look forward to seeing classics like this pop up in my feed.

HA!!! So much for EDCO scrapping this thing. I would has suspected it would have been cut up long ago, but I'm glad to see it stubbornly still out there doing the good work.

Yeah, I am just as surprised they kept this thing around. Doesn't run much, but can still be found out collecting a route from time to time.

This truck...it's just so magnificent. Great job keeping your camera still under such exciting circumstances, I don't know if I'd be able to as well as you did. I saw that moment you were talking about where the packer wouldn't start, that would freak me out too. Great job on the hopper shots, that's the best you can ask for when there's a cart tipper in your way and the other hopper door is closed. That tipper sounds like she could use a little grease, quite a shame to hear it sound old and neglected like that. At the same time I'm really glad they're keeping at least one of the Toter tippers, I don't want Baynes taking over what's left of their MSLs. Hopefully they'll take this lil packer out again some time next summer.

Wasn't easy trying to keep the camera still while filming this one for sure. I like these tippers a lot more than the Baynes, so that was definitely an added bonus for me too.

Awesome find! I really like how you can see the hopper real good on these types of trucks. It seems to me that the tipper doesn't really work right, like how it wasn't grabbing onto the toter at 1:22, and how the carts got kinda stuck when the driver was removing them from the tipper.

Great catch! I've always been a huge fan of these low entry conversions. So awesome how this is still around! As much as I love EDCO's manual guys, I'm a sucker for semi-auto trucks. And man this did not disappoint. Loved how violent and rough the tipper ran, and even got some good lid flips in there! As you know, I'm not too familiar with MSLs, but is that tipper an original Amrep one? I recognize it from other EDCO videos, looks really old fashioned but then again all I've seen within the past five years is a McNeilus and Euro-Tipper on an MSL haha Anyway, the truck has one of the most aesthetically pleasing looks to it imo. The low entry makes it even better too. I love the split grille on these old WHITEs. That was neat to see him close up the hopper, and man sick sounding horn! What do they normally use in this HOA? This truck is honestly the perfect size to be running here imo, no need to shove a big truck through here at all. Oh yeah, crazy to hear that they have to come the next day to finish up the routes sometimes. These guys must have quite a long day! Congrats on catching this, excellent find!

WMmaster626 So the tipper is made by Toter (yes the Toter that makes carts) and it's almost guaranteed to not be original to the truck, as EDCO was completely manual back in the 80's. The hopper is suspected to be a Maxon, not the original Amrep based on it's shape and size.

Thanks for that info. I guess I phrased my initial question wrong , but I meant to imply if just the tipper was made by Amrep or another brand. I figured they added it on within the past few years since like you said, they were manual down there up until recently, so I was curious if they bought the tippers from Amrep when they went to add them on.

Thank you! Yeah, it's a Toter tipper that was probably put on just a few years back. The normal truck is an Autocar CWS MSL. They really need to send a mini here regularly because the turns into these alley's are just to hard to get a full size truck into. In fact, the last time I was here I witnessed the driver rip out an electrical box and bend the front bumper out while trying to get into one of these alley's.

Another great video Alex, any idea what year this Amrep is? I wonder if EDCO even has a truck older than this? I cannot get over the great condition of this truck. It looks great, the packer is fast and it sounds amazing. Hopefully it is not retired and is instead sent to Mountain, but EDCO and Burrtec seem to never trade trucks so that's unlikely. Nice description too, WMmaster626 and I had the exact same reaction when we saw the Superlight in Moreno Valley. Good job Alex!

Thank you! I don't know the exact year, but sometime in the early to mid 80's. This would be EDCO's oldest truck left. Would be quite amazing to see this thing working the routes that the Mountain trucks do.
