Pebbles is so adorable. We lost our kitty 2 wks ago. Shes in heaven with her momma and siblings. She was the last of my kitty clan. She was 15 years old. When they leave us it's one of the hardest things, but we cant be selfish and keep them longer just for our own greed. So we let her go home. So I love when I see pebbles jumps on your lap! 🐈

My husband and I would drive around Sawgrass and Jacksonville Beaches in Florida on trash day and we would find the most incredible things that people would put on the curbside for the Trash hauler. Some days it was like an episode of Antiques Roadshow. It was incredible to me what people would just throw out for the trash hauler. We rescued some of the most beautiful items. We started to gain a name and people would invite us to their estate sales. We would take items back to our shop in our Orange 57 Chevrolet Truck, make repairs, refinish and sell them out of our shop Wood-N-Stuff. We were able to turn that into a viable business in under a year. It was my husband who taught me how to refinish furniture. And people just loved that old truck that we had. Within months we were getting calls from antique dealers at the local antique malls to come pick up their pieces, refinish them so that they could sell them for a higher price at their shop. People wanting us to come into their home and give them an estimate on what we would charge to refinish their antiques. There is an actual place in this world where you can dumpster dive and turn what people considered trash into a real treasure for someone else. Rescuing beautiful objects from complete destruction became a passion for me.

A tip for cutting foam: Use an electric knife, a simple one you'd use in the kitchen. The double blade holds the foam in place while you cut - goes through it like a like a hot wire through butter. Enjoying all your videos very, very much, love from Germany !

I used an old grain sack and dropcloth to reupholster my wingback chair. I absolutely love it! Two things I learned were to cut the foam with an electric kitchen knife and second put batting (like what you use when quilting) between the foam and the fabric. It smooths out all the lumps. But never fear all your stuff is beautiful!!! 🙂

I am loving all your wonderful Trash to Treasure projects. I do the same for myself. Here is a little tip for foam cutting that I picked up from an HGTV show back in the early 1990s and have been using ever since. As a professional Seamstress I make a LOT of household furnishings, including reupholstering chairs and stools which always need new foam. Cut the foam with an electric carving knife... any double-blade carving knife will do. Yes... a meat carving knife, but one dedicated to your foam cutting needs. It can cut up to 5" thick without binding or 'chopping' the foam for a nice even edge.

As a former custom furniture designer you're missing one element on that footstool and that is batting. It will take out all the Imperfections caused by the jagged edges of the foam. Foam is usually cut with a hot knife.😊

Hi Mary, I love all three of these items, you did a great job. If you cover the foam and sides of the ottoman with batting, you'll get a much smoother finish. Plus, if you then cover the batting with muslin (preferably flame retardant), not only does it give an even smoother finish, it also helps prevent friction between the more expensive top fabric and the foam, which also prevents wear. In addition, the other advantage is, if you decide to change the outer fabric, the integrity of the foam in ottoman will remain intact.

Wrap in quilt batting using spray glue.( I saw an upholstery guy pull on the batting to tear it instead of cutting it.) He also "softened" the edges of the foam by taking a knife and cutting the blunt edge back to sort of round it. Then he applied the batting. You always do such a great job and have an eye for awesome style. Love your videos.

Hi Mary, well done with your projects. The reason you have the 'lumps' you mentioned on your ottoman is that after you do the foam layer, you're supposed to do a layer of batting to soften things out, before putting the cover on. Polyester batting is fine & cheap & the normal standard in upholstery, you don't need to go to the expense of quilt batting as others have mentioned. Easy fixed! Best wishes.

Well u did it again.... 3 big winners. Liked them all. I noticed one of ur followers mentioned about using batting for the foam I agree then what I’ve done is take a old white sheet n placed that over the batting. I’ve recovered many foot stools n that’s what I’ve always done. Even tho ur permanent material is a little thick with the sheet it will do much smoother n won’t see the batting also it will wear better. Loved that news paper wall paper. Every time u have used that I say to myself “ where can u find that cuz love it!” U were the answer to my prayers. Gonna order it. Got lots of ideas for it. Thank u Mary. I know I’ve said this before. I wish I lived closer to u. I thought I know quite a bit about redoing trash to treasure but ever since I started watching u u have taught me many things. U know maybe u could come to Sarasota for a vacation n u could still share a few more of specialty. LOL😊 I know u won’t but I could at least try. 😊 I just can’t wait for next Wednesday maybe u’ll work on that sweet table u found at a garage sale for $10.00 Have a wonderful rest of the week n see ya on Wednesday. God Bless Michelle D♥️
