It's beautiful and so functional. The fact that you and your husband made it together is so special! Sometimes it is worth the wait. We built our own house and had to take our time in finishing things. My husband is a union carpenter and makes amazing things. I couldn't even envision how our island would come out from salvaging an old industrial iron mangle base. I love it! It's a one of a kind piece and so worth doing ourselves! Mary, I love your kitchen island. I was found a tall desk on MarketPlace and we took left over scraps of butcher block counter tops and my husband pieced them together and made a lovely counter top. We paid $50.00 for the tall desk and I already had paint and leftover handles for the drawer he created, so we only spent $50.00.

Mary you and your husband need your own HGTV show!!! The island is fantastic!! ???? How did you attach the counter top...is it glued on??? I would have never thought to have the legs be flipped and they look wonderful!! I love all of your projects and how great that John helps you with all of them!! The new trend is to mix March stones so you could easily put a soapstone on the other when you are ready for a complete gut job in 10 years. I think it turned out beautifully and I don't mind red oak but to each their own. Looks great with the floors. Twinkle approved!

I love your new island! We just put quarts counter in our kitchen at church and we love it. I had to laugh when you tackled moving the old one out , I did the same thing with a sewing machine cabinet. I didn’t want to wait for my husband to get home so I did it myself.
