I installed motion sensored sprinklers in my garden. Whenever a critter gets near my garden, it sets off the sprinklers & scares them off. The only drawback is I have to remember to turn the water off to the sprinklers when I go out to my garden, lol, I got soaked a few times. They really work & are safe.

Your garden is lovely 💕 I live in Michigan and the only thing that keeps the deer and bunnies out of the gardens is a tall fence! My brother and sister in law built a beautiful fence around their flower and vegetable garden. Around their 7’ chicken wire posts and fencing; they used grapevines, old chippy windows to add their cottage style touch to it. They even put old doors in to enter the garden! It is absolutely stunning 😊 I’m looking forward to watching your garden bloom and grow 💐🍎🍓🥒

These are true words. Between the deer, gophers, birds eating the tops off my lettuces and chards, I feel robbed at the pass as I work so hard in my garden. The other day I came out to find that a gopher had taken down a ten year old artichoke plant! Of course it was loaded with artichokes not really ready to pick, but now we are eating them as minis. I hate gophers with a vengeance. I do have one or two gopher snakes. Wish they would work double time so I could get my garden back!

When I worked for a greenhouse, they always said if you were going to plant any kind of a mint to plant it in something like a cut off bleach bottle or a mouth shut, but he just is good. I planted it one year before I knew that, and it was so invasive not only that it was covered with flies that made it almost impossible to pass it without having a swarm come up from it.

I paused the video to leave this comment. When one is living in deer country a high fence around the garden is needed otherwise we can't blame the wildlife for eating the food, they don't know any better. With your amazing and abundant God given skills Mary I have no doubt you could whip one up in a jiffy if you wanted to. It may change the visual aesthetic of a garden, but for myself I would rather know I haven't harmed animals in anyway just to keep them out. When in deer country we share the land with the animals, it is their land as well.

Your garden space will be beautiful once established, love how you and John work together ❤️ For the rose bushes, they are fairly easy to grow as long as you plant hardy ones, for colder climate. I'm in Canada 🇨🇦 and I have a rose garden, they come back every year. They like mulch, coffee grounds and I also give them rose fertilizer a couple of times a season. For keeping deer out of your garden The best-known deer repellent is ordinary bar soap. Hung from strings in trees or large shrubs, whether wrapped or unwrapped, the scent of the soap is said to keep deer away. Some people even attach soap bars to stakes, placed at 10- to 15-foot intervals along the perimeter of their property or garden area

Hi Mary the garden looks wonderful, what an industrious family you are. Regarding roses, I agree dead head often and prune back to a pink shoot if the branches get to leggy, I noticed wind around them so you may need to stake them. I plant calendular around mine to keep aphids at bay. I just loved the frilly pink rose. I chose all mine for perfume alone, if they aren't fragrant then they aren't in my garden. My favourite rose is Just Joey it blooms as big as side plate and starts off lemony and then gets lovely pink edges. I agree about the mint, mine even grows in the cracks in the concrete path!!. Have a great week, Gods blessings from NZ

Lambs Ear is what my husband planted around our garden and it is working to keep deer, rabbits and other critters from munching on his plants. I don't know a lot about roses specifically, but I have a fairly good understanding of gardening in general. Mary, perhaps "salt" works in the particular area of this person, however, I can't imagine that table salt would benefit roses (or any plants) in any garden. Perhaps this person is referring to Epsom salt, which I have heard is beneficial in some gardens. I would talk to your local state's college extension office before adding "salt" anywhere in your garden.

We have alot of dandelions here in this area and apparently, the bees love it. With some research, I am sure you could raise one or two hives with all the beautiful flowers and fauna in your backyard. You could then take what you harvest and market it as a honey/sugar body scrub in beautiful jars. My SiL is going to use the honeycomb/beeswax to make a lip balm and give them as gifts at Christmas. It's all beautiful! Now you just need a glider and side table for tea and watch the plants grow!
