Disclaimer - don't take a wire brush to your own car(!) I hadn't spotted it at the time but its clear to see that the deepest part of the scratch is still slightly visible during the self-healing test at the end of the episode. Whilst paint protection film will go a long way to protect your paint and keep a swirl-free and scratch-free finish, it doesn't protect against idiots with wire brush drill attachements! Still mighty impressive (since filming and watching the footage back, i've examined the area several times and I can't see any marks - result) My final thoughts - very impressive and I wish I'd got on the PPF train sooner!

This is much more watchable in separate episodes than one whole chunk. Who has time to watch one and a half hours of detailing in one go? Not me. Thanks Jim.

That's my evening viewing sorted, will edit my post after watching! Edited post-viewing - until your recent video with the blue M5, I didn't know full PPF-ing was a thing. I thought key, exposed points on a car were the recipient of the film such as bumper corners, wing mirrors etc. I've been enlightened and look forward to seeing part 3! Thanks Jim

Hi Glenn, whilst I appreciate your comment, I figured I'd best just drop in quickly.. With regards to the ppf, I've only been installing film for a month. 5-6 weeks max and it's been on/off at that. Obviously, it would be nice to bring the knowledge and skills up to top tier stuff eventually but that is going to take years to master and perfect (like my detailing, has taken 10+ years) I'm very happy with the install on my Touring but I have to say, there are hundreds of guys & girls out there with waaaaay more skills in this department then me! Thanks for your support - here's to the next 12/24 months!

Of all the auto detailing channels WhiteDetails is my favorite. You give me what I love about detailing and that's getting to look at the car from all the angles, appreciate the textures of the materials, the reflections, and body lines from a variety of distances and light conditions. Like the grill of a Bentley, or carpet pile/nap in an Aston Martin. I like that you stick to nice cars I want to see, nothing rundown or a waste of effort. Also that you take the time to show the finished product. Thank you for many years of amazing work.

Jim so glad to see you getting into PPF, you were a big inspiration to my business when we first went full time, and I even called and asked for some advice once! Quick tip for your squeegeeing, coat the edges of your squeegee, it will make the glide much more smoothly, and help minimise the scratches, along with spraying slip on top of the film. Also BMW door handles are super easy to remove, pull them out for the doors. The M Badges come up super easy too, no software has them in the patterns, so just pull them off and re-tape them when done! Cheers, Saad

I heard you mention Eric from Drive Protected on a recent podcast I listened to. He’s driving in from Canada this weekend to train me here at the shop. It’s the second time I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from him. He’s an incredible PPF installer and even better man to be honest and has helped me a lot in my PPF journey. I use Suntek here at the shop as well and it was really awesome hearing someone (You of course) that I’ve looked up to over the years speak of someone I personally have worked with. Thank you for all of the great content and I can’t wait to see where this takes your projects in the future! God Bless!

Great video. I’m not sure what you can charge in your area, but I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I paid £10,000 to get my 2022 G82 M4 full STek PPF and Feynlab ceramic. Full polish, car was delivery miles, and I brought it to the detailer with all of the factory plastics and white tape masking on the hood and handles. I’ll tell you if you want to offer this on the high end cars, cutting out the emblems and door handles is going to be a no-go. I had badges removed, and since they’re one time use, they were all reordered. Factor this into the cost when quoting the job. Thumbnail spoiler removed to facilitate the boot being PPFd in one piece. The spoiler PPFd and then reinstalled. Door handles removed so no cookie cutter door cup cutouts. Wheels off and polished, ceramic. Carbon ceramic brake calipers ceramic coated, outer windscreen, STek DynoFlex. 9,500 miles later, no issues, no delaminating, no PPF peeling back. It’s been flawless. But I paid for it.

I'm surprised that PPF hasn't been popular in the UK before as I've had that fitted to all my new cars for the last 8 years in Australia. It really is a great product and saves the high impact sections on the vehicle as we travel thousands of KM's in the outback and confronting road trains ( Lorries towing two to three trailers at once). Great video as usual.

Great video, some observations that I’ve taken away: - Don’t scratch your cars PPF with a wire brush 👍🏼 - Jim said the word condom 😂 - why is no one talking about the fact Jim used a scraper on the bonnet 😮 gave me chills - Finally, there was no need for the slo-mo of the pillar coupled with the music, very seductive. But I’m here for it 😆 All seriousness, a great video 👏🏼 a question I thought of was if you would consider offering as a service, putting PPF on the gloss black for interiors?

Stunning Motor Jim, glad to see you back in a Beemer again. Slightly biased having a 2016 LCI F31 335d Tourer myself. Astounds me sometimes with spec choices (I.E missing pro nav). What colour is the interior, is it cognac? Looks like the rear wheels especially have spacers as well do they? How does it ride on the lowered springs? Does it have adaptive or fixed dampers? Got Schnitzer springs for mine but not fitted yet

I have had two BMW cars from 2020 of mine PPF'ed with XPEL. What I have noticed is that especially the edges on the front bumper, front sides and rocker panels really need extra heat and drying otherwise tiny small dirt particles will start to get trapped when the film is newly installed and fresh. So make sure to let it dry and use the heat gun for additional hours than the recommended time I would say. The hardest part with PPF I find when I have installed small pieces on my own, nothing big is the delicate feeling to cut through with the knife steady and straight, that is a skill you can practice to really get top notch results where knife is needed.

Love watching as always Jim, thank you. Is it me, or does the PPF film give a slightly more hazy reflection than just corrected paint? That said, worth it for the protection value. Question; I guess the PPF cutting machine has the vast majority of modern cars in its database. How far back / does it include / can older modern classics or indeed classics be catered for? For example, a Mk2 VW Scirocco... think you knew where that was going! 😄 Good to see you enjoying the process, you clearly enjoy the results of your labours!

I didn’t see any hot water in a spray bottle. That will be your best friend for bulking mirrors and edges. Hardest car I have done to date was a full body Hummer H2. The roof is insane because of the rise and the channels on top of the rise. And the faux snorkel caps on the front. Best part is no patterns for most of the vehicle so it is all bulked. The doors are insane because of the paint going all the way around the windows and then recessing in. Had to remove the front windows to remove the mirror on the front doors. And the upper rear quarter panel, that was a unpleasant woman. All the “popsicle” shaped vents on the front windscreen cowel had to be trimmed out by hand. If anyone wants one done we charge $15k USD and don’t even really want to muck with it at that price haha.
