Whiteface Mountain, at 4,867', is the 5th highest peak in the Adirondack Mountains (and New York State as a whole). The mountain held skiing competition in the 1980 Olympics and is located just outside of Lake Placid, NY. Visitors can hike all the way to the top of the mountain or, like we did, drive up to about 4,600' and cover the last 1/5 mile on foot along a breath taking path to the summit.

Even with the railings that's not an easy climb... half way is further then some people will get.

Oh man this brings back so many awesome memories! You had a lot less clouds there, could see for a long distance! I think my hands were sweating a bit with a mild fear of heights myself, so cool that it didn't impact you as much haha. Not a place I'd want to hike in the rain. haha. Yeah breweries! Thanks for sharing man, hope all is well up thatta way! - Shane

Yeah doing that in the rain would suck, the rocks are so worn in some spots that they had grip tape stuck to them, but even that was wearing off. The way back down to the castle was trickier because of the worn rocks.

Doesn't matter if you're on a mountain or not up there, views are everywhere!

That trail that you went down from the summit does goes almost 3000 feet to the trailhead below Marble Mountain. The peak on the left is the other high peak, Esther.

Yeah, I realized that after we left and drove by the trailhead a while later. Looks like a cool trail to climb the mountain though.

Fairly tough. Hitting Esther first breaks it up a bit. Amazing view obviously, but kind of sucks seeing so many people at the top. Been training for the high peaks with repeats of Lehigh Gap and Mt. Tammany.

Awesome video!!! If you don't mind, where did you guys stayed? What's the name of the campground? I'm planning to go around in September. Thank you in advance

Thank you! While we technically "camped", we didn't stay at a campground. We stayed at a cabin I that was an AirBNB I think. 3 of us just set up out back lol.

That was enjoyable Kurt. Funny thing I lived in Placid for 3 years but never got up to the summit of Whiteface. Did you get to Mt. Van Hovenberg to see the bobsled run?

We did go to Mt. Van Hovenberg, we did the Cliffside Coaster that follows the old bobsled run.

What is the name of the hiking trail?

I don't know that it has an official name, I could be wrong though. From the back of the gift shop where it starts I think the sign just said "To Summit".

Nice, that's a beautiful area up there. I think we stopped for coffee in a little place attached to a supermarket in Tupper Lake while up there.
