Also the Finger Lakes: great farm countryside, waterfalls, gorges, great towns, and wineries. It has become an international destination in recent years!

New York is home for me and I always love seeing videos from places close to home. The Adirondacks is my favorite place to be! I was actually at the Loj the same day you guys were, I hiked Algonquin on the same day you started your backpack trip. When you showed the shot of you guys walking back to your van I remember seeing your van there when I got back from my hike. If you’re ever back in the area I highly recommend doing Algonquin, it’s the 2nd highest in NY and you can summit three high peaks all in one hike!
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh no way! And thanks for the hike suggestion, we would love to do that next time!
@kenkaplan36546 ай бұрын
@@AdventuresofAplusK Algonquin actually has better views than Marcy, if that's possible and is a much more accessaible and economic hike, (8 miles as opposed to your 18). If you really are up for a challenge , do the upper range (Gothics, Saddleback, Basin, Haystack.) If you can do only one, do Haystack. Views are beyond spectacular, rated by many as #1 in high peaks (Algonquin #2) but it's really back there.

Congratulations on the high point - and on your 200th KZbin video! This was definitely worthy of #200. I'd like to thank you for all the tips you provided that made my recent Dakotas vacation a smashing success. Things you helped me to know about: Cathedral Spires, Black Elk Peak (I got my own high point, although it was in the fog, which was cool in its own way), Spearfish Canyon, Notch/Door/Window Trails, Pinnacles Overlook for sunset, Rankin Ridge at Wind Cave NP (tower is still closed), Painted Canyon at Theodore Roosevelt NP for sunset, the 18th floor of the North Dakota State Capitol, and the Juicy Lucy in Minneapolis (yes, you even helped me in a place you didn't film!). Things I added: Castle Trail in the Badlands, Devils Tower, Medicine Rocks in Montana, White Butte in North Dakota (make that two high points!), the amazing North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt NP (Caprock Coulee hike and Sperati Point both have incredible views), the Minnehaha Creek Trail from a waterfall to the Mississippi (only 2.5 miles from the Juicy Lucy), and Devil's Lake State Park in Wisconsin, which honors the America the Beautiful Pass because it's home to a unit of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve. Thank you again for all the tips and inspiration! Bring on New England!

Major ❤ for ADK and to see it with a bit of 🍁🍂 is just awesome. Kona was all kinds of epic on that first ladder! The Adirondacks was where I had my first ever bear sighting. It was just after the campers left (so camp was quite quiet) and one got its hands (paws?) on a rubbish bag round the back of the mess hall. I was on my own and freaked out - so mighty glad to see you had the heavy duty bear containers. Whenever we took the kids hiking, it was never on any trails as cool looking as this one. It looked so varied with the ladders, ridges, walk ways and so on... but I wouldn't have appreciated all of that mud. At 16:26, it was really interesting to see how many people had marked just 1 person off, it looked like you two were the only non solo-ers! The first pizza sounded delightful, but you guys officially butchered it when you asked them to not include mushrooms! Sad that you don't have more videos from the area (for now) but excited to see Vermont. Hoping you guys put the van on the ferry across Lake Champlain as that will bring back some serious good memories for me!

These are really splendid views from Marcy, especially of Haystack, the MacIntyre Range and the Great range. You had a very beautiful day. I climbed Marcy 6 times via the route you took, including Skylight on 5 of them. It is so much more interesting than the Van Hoevenberg trail, which we descended , except for the astonishing view at Indian Falls. We would swim in the Opalescent Brook on the way to Lake Tear. I always felt a chill at 4 corners. Back in the day ( 60's) there was a lean to there and never more than 10 cars in the Adirondack Loj parking lot.

One of your best videos. Mt. Marcy is on my list of things to do and I don't live that far away. My wife and I summited Wheeler Peak on October 10. Kathryn replied in a prior comment that Wheeler Peak was more difficult than Mt. Elbert. For us Wheeler Peak was equally difficult because there was snow and ice on the way up and it was COLD at the top--23 F and 27 mph wind. We didn't stay long. I like your post high-point summit tradition. My wife and I have a similar tradition with beer, salsa, and blue corn chips. I think the next high point for us might be Humphreys Peak in Arizona, but not in the winter. Enjoying your travels.

I've spent alot of time in the Adirondacks. Beautiful area. If you are in Central New York stop in Utica and try the food. It is amazing and the best in the country in my opinion. Upside down pizza, chicken riggies and halfmoon cookies are just an example of the area's food. The second oldest pizzeria in the U.S. is in Utica and the Utica Club brewery is the first brewery in America to sell beer after prohibition ended. A cool tour of the brewery and samples in the 1888 tavern are a must. Great beers and soft drinks. Check it out.

Great video! I love seeing the Adirondacks on youtube! I just got into the teens of the 46 high peaks...so far my favorites are Big Slide, Giant, and Nippletop, but I hear Dix mountain is a fan favorite sunrise view. Marcy was the first one I did, and to this point, I still think it was the easiest because it was so flat compared to my other summits 😂. The ADK's is no joke, and I will definitely watch more of your NE adventures like Vermont!! P.S. if you want some cool day hike recommendations, Indian Head Lookout is an easy hike, and AMAZING VIEWS year-round.
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
Congrats on hitting the teens! That is awesome!! We had hoped to do Indian Head and had permits to park, but since dogs aren't allowed and we couldn't find a sitter close enough we had to skip it, which we were SO bummed about because it was one of the top hikes we were excited about out east. Next time for sure!

I am currently an aspiring ADK 46er! These hikes are no joke! Glad you experienced one. There is never a shortage of mud, no matter the season! Trekking poles make all the difference on trails like these! Invest in a pair? AMAZON! LOL - They are known as "Adirondack miles" wayyyy different than your average mile. I love to see you exploring my home state! I am from Buffalo! Hope you enjoyed the wings!
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
The hikes are no joke! They were so difficult with the terrain and elevation gain. Poles are kind of hard for us with needing our hands free for our pup and camera gear, but we may try them in the future. We loved the Adirondacks and can’t wait to come back. Good luck on your journey to conquer all the high peaks!

When i was younger we hiked in sneakers and usually ruined a pair on a 3 day hike around Marcy.

I did Marcy two years in a row as a Boy Scout about 4 decades ago. Some of this looks familiar(no clue which trail we took) especially the final several yds. I'm thinking about MAYBE doing it next fall, but I am 60 with aches & pains so IDK. Great vid; thanks!
@kenkaplan36546 ай бұрын
Marcy via Van Hoevenberg is shorter but way less scenic. Algonquin is the more economical day hike but tough at the top. 8 miles round trip. A really good day hike is Cascade or Noonmark. Both are not easy but are not as high and are right off the road. Of course there is Mt Jo

That hiked looked so beautiful...wow. Thanks for highlighting that one. I was just telling my wife about the 3 types of fun this weekend!...that's so funny you mentioned it. I need more Type 2 in my life right now. Also, can we get A+K merch with a "When you're married, who cares" slogan on it? I'd buy one. Can't wait to see the fall color vids to come!

Nothing beats a big greasy cheeseburger after coming off any long hard climb and hiking trail, try it sometime. Love the Adirondacks, climbed many of the high peaks and trails, due for another peak soon. Great video, I love how you include facts and information in your videos, the research really comes through, you seem to have a knack for honing in on the key elements of a area and present it like you’ve been there many times before. Keep up the high quality work.

Oh don't worry, we indulged in a very greasy burger after a hard hike in a video we just filmed the other day. It was the best! We really loved the area, it's a place we could totally see ourselves returning to many times. Thanks for the kind words on the video, we spend so many hours researching and planning for each video and it means a lot when others appreciate it!

I have been watching your videos. I really like your style(s): Lots of hiking and minimal angst(!). Very beautiful and generous photography and cinema. I realize you take Kona everywhere. But I still wonder why I don't see you two using hiking/trekking poles more often, especially when carrying your big packs. I think in my youth, I simply powered through without them. But my knee damage is cumulative. Now I can hardly do without them! I highly recommend a pair of light weight collapsible poles for each of you! Anyway: thanks for the great video and photography. Love all the smiles as well...
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The biggest reason is that with having to handle Kona and film videos, which often requires use of both hands, poles would be a huge hassle for us and make filming hikes a lot harder. We would be willing to try them on a Kona-free hike and possibly a hike we are not filming though.

I have just discovered your channel. I was looking for a great You tube channel to cover some of the trails in Glacier National Park since we just booked a trip out there. I've watched all of them so far and they are awesome!! Then browsing through your channel, I discovered this video of ADK!!!! I am soooo over the moon excited to see you have a video covering the Adirondack Mountains!!! I was born and raised in a little town in the foothills and I went to college at Paul Smiths College, just a short drive away from Saranac Lake. I wonder if you spent any time in Saranac Lake? It is my favorite place in the world. I have lived in Indiana for over 20 years now and have also been privileged to see a lot of the country, but go home and to the Adirondacks as often as possible!! It warms my heart to see you cover this area. SOOOO many people have no idea that NY STATE isn't just all city. Thank you for sharing this and I can't wait to see more.
