These 60% type of keyboard sizes are meant for programmers. They don't want their hands to leave the home row. Some people can navigate the entire linux gui by keyboard only. Programmers are use to using key combos for everything. So because the customization is difficult for many of us, it makes perfect sense to many programmers. In my opinion, they were the ones that started the whole custom keyboard culture, not gamers.

mirby That's just stereotype honestly I find myself am a Gamer, but I never really like those RGB lighting etc. I don't mind if it doesn't have LED at all, but if I'm buying a keyboard, two are similar keyboards and both of the keyboards are price at 300$ but one is without RGB / LED Lighting and another does feature it, of course I will get the one RGB / LED Lighting. Since it's the same price why not have it ? But I won't on purpose pay extra to get the extra lighting of course. PS : I didn't labeled myself a gamer to begin with honestly, it's what my friends kept calling me back in the days. So the title stick.

I've been using a Ducky Mini for the past couple years so I'm used to the 60% layout. If you don't need the number pad, once you get used to the extra desk space, it's hard to go back to a full size. I think for the ability to customize the function layers so extensively, the keyboard would definitely be worth the price. Might consider this in the future.

I've actually been rocking the Ajazz AK33 recently and really love it. The overall design is pretty kickass as well as it's the 75% layout as opposed to the ~60% of the whitefox. The AK33 doesn't have cherry switches which is unfortunate, but these seem pretty similar to cherry imho. The 75% layout for me is a lot better than the 60% because it's not all that much bigger and you get a lot more functionality. Really the only thing at all you lose is the num key pad.
@charlieonyoutube81358 жыл бұрын

Awesome video! I love the look of this keyboard! These custom keyboards influenced me to try my hand at making one myself, as I'm looking for a small ortholinear keyboard. I'm still in the early design phase, but I've started testing on an old broken keyboard by removing the PCB and replacing it with a Teensy 3.1 controller board and hand soldering the matrix. It taught me a lot about how keyboards and soldering work, as well as the fact that I want to do more projects like this! Hope to see you guys having a look at more of these more niche keyboards in the future!!!
@mshrg8 жыл бұрын
I love the build quality and the customization idea, but restricting it to this condensed layout, and with no option for a numpad at least, it's restricted to a very niche market, that sadly doesn't include me. However I'm personaly okay with it lacking USB-A-in ports. IMHO I think it would be a great idea if they make a separate magnet-attachable numpad, perhaps even daisy-chaining several 'pads'.
@theotherlinh8 жыл бұрын
I love these things, but I do not want to build them. So the cost becomes extremely prohibitive. I'm stuck with prebuilt keyboards, heh. I do want to find something similar to this layout though. A step down from the tenkeyless keybaords, but not so far down as the 61 key ones.
@ForNoOne16 жыл бұрын
$300 MSRP is ridiculous, even for a high quality mech board. Most Vortex boards are only $140 and I can't see how this is somehow twice is good when the functionality and build quality is essentially identical.

Imma go start a new keyboard company and market it as "The Most Customizable Keyboard" and only have the metal board, no buttons or cables will come with it... It'll be a super premium, well detailed design and cost $300... The buttons will be customizable and each button will cost $20, the USB cable to connect the keyboard is $50. If you want the keyboards to have the alphabet labels, $10 extra per button... If you want the keyboard to have a paint then it'll be extra $200 or it'll be just steel metal color straight from the factory xD

"Considering the compact layout, this cannot be considered a fully fledged gaming keyboard" Why not? I mean, for MMOs or RPGs, sure, but how often do you use any keys on the right side of the board during FPS or MOBA gameplay (or any other game that relies heavily on the mouse)? Many of the most popular mechanical gaming keyboards are Tenkeyless, for example, the k65, the BlackWidow TE, or the Cooler Master QFR. Personally I switch between a full sized IBM Model M, which I mostly use for typing due to the switches, a 40% sized Planck keyboard, and I'm planning on building an 18% sized gaming keypad using Cherry MX blacks. Among the many benefits of a compact keyboard for gaming, is the fact that it gives you so much more mouse space, which is especially useful if you play at a low DPI, and I would think that Eber would appreciate this, given he is a CS:GO player. If anything, in some cases, this type of keyboard would be more suited to gaming and writing than for office use, as office workers I'm sure have more of a use for a number pad than gamers.
