Great knives! Felco have the exact same designs with the Victorinox logo and 'Felco' on them but only available in red and cheaper than Victorinox. The variations are for budding/grafting/pruning. The brass blade is for lifting bark when grafting plants. The brass avoids contamination with disease.

Single edges are for precise Cutts, a bit like a chisel. The 1st knife has a budding blade with a nib that is mainly used for bark or rose buds, the flat blade is a grafting knife. I’m not sure if the use of the clip point, however the 3rd knife has the curved pruning blade. The brass tool I guess is again for buds/budding/bark removal.

clip point is for general outdoor use

The budding cut or grafting cut is made with the blade with the bump. The scion or cuttings you use the straight one for- for the angle straight cuts. The first one is rounded because it's not for a straight cut it's for a draw cut done with precision- why you choke up and why it's made that way. Have owned one for years. That's the correct way to use.

I might have to pick one of these up. I honestly really like the size and the different scale material, it gives it more of a classic look imo. Plus those hawk Bill blades would be great for harvesting mushrooms or other wild plants. One of these styled knives paired with the book for foraging native mushrooms/plants would make a great gift for someone into the outdoors or native plants imo (or opinelsl's mushroom knife)

I have used the flat grind on mine for preparing grafting (attaching a branch of one tree onto the root stock of a related but different tree often done in fruit trees) stock. Using a pull style cut with the flat side against the plant with the intention of a smooth straight flat cut performed on both branch and root for a better chance of grafting to take and grow together.

I concur. One sided blade makes a flatter cut on you scion and rootstock.

As a horticulturalist these are excellent knives and mine get heavy use in grafting season. 3.9140 and the curved blade are my go to knives for bud grafting

The one with the bump on it is for Bud grafting. ( The first knife) The straight cut blade is for doing the rest of the work when you do that stuff- cutting scions or cuttings to root. I own one. Picked it up at Lee Valley in Canada years ago and have used a ton.

Yes they are very useful for budding and grafting

Flat on one side sharpened on the other is to keep your knife from diving too deep when cutting off a bud to graft.

That knurling I think is so you can lock the knife out with your thumb, as you use the grafting blade on the back of the knife. :)
@MrMawnster Жыл бұрын
no, the cut is not done with the part...that's just for lifting and prying as you insert the scion or bud. The knurl is for control on a precise small cut.
@lmaoroflcopter Жыл бұрын
@@MrMawnster I am certain it is knurled for you to place your thumb there to prevent the blade from closing on you as you use the blade positioned on the back of the knife, lift with it, pry with it, or cut with it it is not a locking blade. If you try any of the above it'll want to close on your fingers, without placing your thumb to brace it first on the provided knurling. Any additional benefit of fine control is an aside, not the main function of it.

The brass blade is used the same as the back of the first knife though the first one allows more precision. They are both used to open the cut you've made to insert the scion or bud. "Bark lifter" is the crude name for both the bump and the brass blade

I worked for a floral distributor 10 years ago and have carried one of the curved floral knives ever since, mine only has the 1 blade in it. Great knives/blades never going bak to a straight one.

Hi. Just received one. Mine has little scratches on the blade. Doesn't seem to be the same quality than ''normal'' saks. Never saw such a problem on a normal one.

I would like to have the 3rd one you pulled out (in the end the one on the right). That’s the one I liked the most out of these 3. - clip point blade - pruner blade (the evil one :P ) - „tool you need when you review SAK while wearing white gloves“ (the brass thingy)
@WhiteGloveReviews5 жыл бұрын
It does seem like that one would be most versatile for gardening. :)

Once again you are reviewing Swiss Army Knives where you have no idea of their intended use. Why don't you do some research before you do your reviews? And why on earth were the knives in plastic bags at the start of the vid - So you had trouble opening them with your white gloves
