Product Sourcing:
When it comes to sourcing a product for review, I will usually either purchase and item personally or reach out to a supplier requesting a sample for review. Most suppliers, after seeing the channel, are supportive if they are confident in their product, appreciating the value of greater exposure.
I am sometimes asked to review a product by a supplier which I will only agree to if the product fits the channel and I believe will be of interest to you, my audience. Also the product needs to be worthy of a review. It is not in my interest to review inferior or poor quality products and therefore as you might expect many requests are politely declined.
Any sponsored videos (paid for reviews) are clearly stated as such so there can be no misunderstanding. Even with sponsored reviews I will only agree to a sponsorship on products and services which I believe will be of genuine interest to viewers.
I will always make reference in the video to products which have been provided for review by a supplier and I always make it clear to the supplier that they cannot influence or be involved in the review in any way if they choose to supply a product.
Sometimes a supplier will provide a link to the product or the supplier which I am happy to include in the description. Sometimes I will be provided with an affiliate link so I can earn a commission on sales and this helps to support channel costs but never at the expense of an honest review.
If a product I have reviewed is available from Amazon I will often include an Amazon link in the description. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you purchase a product or service with the links that I provide I may receive a small commission. There is no additional charge to you.
Comments:
I really appreciate the feedback in the comments - I find it a source of knowledge and inspiration - so thank you to all of you who take the time to contribute. I have recently found that if I continue to respond to all the comments as the number of videos builds, it takes time away from being able to produce new content which would be very counter productive! - so my aim is to read everything I can and reply when I can, after each video goes live, until the next video goes live a week later. I'll see how that works out 😊
Thank you for supporting the channel so I can continue to provide you with regular reviews, thoughts and ideas and (hopefully) inspiration! Please consider subscribing to keep up to date with new video releases.

My favorite SAK is the German army SAK. I was given one while attending the German Bundeswehr mountain school back in 1982. The combination saw, bottle opener, can opener, and both flat head and Phillips screwdriver is genius! I added the Firefly ferro rod and waxed tinder to the cork screw. I also drilled a thread size hole in the finger opener on the awl to use it for sewing. Whenever I go to the field that's the knifr I have with me.

I actually just recently donated my SAK Huntsman to a foreign supermarket worker to aid in his daily work tasks. It is probably the oldest SAK that I had owned. I do like the SAK Cybertool, but being in engineering, computer & electronic repair, & appliance repair, I have soo many small and large portable kits/bags, and duplicates of these in my home and Truck, that getting the Cybertool was never a needed option. The 2 remaining SAK knives that I still own are the SAK SwissChamp, and WorkChamp XL. I bought the latter in Zurich, Switzerland some 2 + decades ago, but honestly would have to say my #1 choice is the SwissChamp. For starters, it is street legal here in Queens, NY, USA, and fact is I like the more versatility and that it has a magnifying glass. (getting older and my eyes aint what they use to be, and I like additional means to start a fire) I use to like the SAK Gentlemen knives, but I guess one could say I outgrew them when I started taking on large 'Jack of all Trades' tasks. Great video, and quite interesting on seeing your personal choices.

My favorite larger format is the Master Craftsman. Probably the reason that it was issued for Astronaut carry. Alas, it is discontinued…. I carry mine in a belt sheath…. Every day I have a climber in my pocket…..a poor man’s compact….cheap online ..you can get them used for half the price of a compact and usually even less…. The compact is, unfortunately, quite pricey for what you get…but very nice…. The Climber is one layer thicker, has same tool set if swap out for plus scales…except the combination tool is replaced by the standard can opener and cap lifter which works better as a small pry bar and snaps at 90 degrees. I agree that the most useful tool on any SAK is the scissors…..thank you for your videos!

I love my Hercules. It has bigger saw and lockable knife blade which makes things easier to cut through things. It also has a pair of sharp scissors, nifty pliers whre I superglued a nail file and the usual can opener, bottle cap lifter and corkscrew at the back. Yes, it is heavier and heftier but such a small price to pay for the model's usefulness. Been in my backpocket, even in my long-runs for the past 12 years!

Those are 8 great knives, I have 4 of them. Next year I will be in Switzerland and plan on buying the Compact.. A long way to go for a SAK but it is the perfect souvenir. My EDC is the Victorinox Tourist. At 84 mm it’s easy in the pocket and has everything I need. Its really just a smaller Spartan, which is their most popular knife. Being legal to carry in the Uk, I never leave home without it.

My favorites are: - The Deluxe Tinker: My personal EDC for about 5 years, it's compact enough to carry in a pouch and has the three tools that I use almost daily: the scissors, the phillips screwdriver, and the very underrated pliers. - The Tinker Small: Basically the tiny version of my Deluxe. Although the 84 mm format is only slightly shorter than a regular 91mm Victorinox, it makes a quite a difference when you carry it in your pocket. - The Bantam Alox: Not only it's gorgeous to look at, but it's so slim that it fits inside my wallet! The combo tool is quite useful. I carry it wherever a full-size knife is not discrete enough. - The Outrider: The best knife in the 111mm range and the best knife for hiking or any outdoor activity. The locking blade is great for more heavy duty woodwork. - The Rambler: A perfect keychain knife for people who don't want to carry a knife! I've gifted this one countless times.

I will admit, I’ve at times felt jealous of the deluxe tinker. I carry a fieldmaster and love it, and while for some occasions I would love the pliers over the saw, there have been those few times where the saw has saved the day! I also used to carry a rambler on my keys. I recently swapped it for a mini champ. I wanted to try it since everyone seems to talk down on it and I’ve liked it so far. For the minimalistic style, I prefer the rambler. But this lives on a ring with ~10 keys so not too noticeable.

My EDC at work is the alox mini champ, it's small enough to not intimidate people, can easily go on my key chain and an underrated tool that's possibly my most used is the hook blade on it, you can easily cut open pallet wrap, cable ties etc. without fear of damaging the goods in it.

Watching this, I went to my kitchen to check on my 1970 Elinox 4 bladed SAK Pioneer. It's been with me camping, business trips, bicycle touring and now kitchen duty so I can keep an eye on my old friend. Got a later Elinox Farmer and a Elinox 1 speed. All three fit in an Altoids tin. File off the hand-killing key ring. I miss the crossbow in the logo.

Thanks for the video! After having suffered a disabled stroller axle, a flip flop malfunction, and a severely broken toe nail at a theme park some 25 years ago, I began carrying a tool to assist with repairs. I use my Swisschamp and Rambler daily. In the smaller size, I have the Rambler as an EDC/keyring knife; and it's great for around town as it is too small to worry anyone. In the medium range, I have the Spartan (old), Huntsman (very, very old) and the Swiss Champ (new). I bought the latter as my Huntsman dates from 1984 and the main blade has lost the grind from many years of sharpening. The Swiss Champ is too large and bulky for a pocket knife (my mistake as I was told this), so I have recently bought an Alox Farmer X. This is a great knife and UK legal (as pointed out in Jon's video). Very happy with this as the wood saw and scissors are my go-to tools for camping. The Swiss Champ now sits happily in my on-bike motorcycle tool kit.

Its hard to pick a favorite. I have a bunch and I carry different ones every couple of days. I know that imo, when it comes to outdoors stuff like with camping, the Handyman, Ranger, Outrider, Farmer, or Hiker are my go to SAKs. My wife bought me a Ranger and I love it. I like having pliers, but the Ranger doesn’t have any, so I usually carry the 5in. Knipex Cobra mini pliers in my pocket with it. Here recently, I’ve had problems with the alternator in my car, and I haven’t gotten it fixed yet, so I’ve been using those pliers to disconnect the negative on my car battery so it doesn’t die for the last couple of weeks hahaha. But if you want all of the tools on the Ranger model, plus some pliers, just get the Handyman. 👍🏼

I also found another use for the corkscrew on SAKs - I used to have a car on which the lug covers on the tyres had to be removed by inserting a small metal tool into a hole in the cover and then pulling. I lost the tool, but my corkscrew did the job!

Nice list! Actually I prefer the Climber over the Huntsman for urban EDC, I can't remember I would have ever needed a saw in an urban every day situation

I have a *Huntsman* because they come in a variety of colours and are often on a sale that makes them cheaper than the *Climber!*

I've had a Camper for 15 years and It's been great but today I would go for a Climber, I used a saw three times max. But I also agree with Johnny, small scissors of Classic SD are great and I would like to have them on a 91mm.

I have both: Climber in Crimea(excellent for EDC there), Huntsman in Kamchatka(forests, parks everywhere, I use saw very often when walking on park with my dog). For other tasks I'm using Classic, Swisschamp, Trailmaster one-hand, Sentinel one-hand, Workchamp and GAK. This is my set of Victorinox knives. For hard use I have some other knives and LM Surge...

I'm a big fan of the Victorinox Cadet. It's just slightly thicker than the Bantam, but the separate can opener / bottle opener and the nail file make it much more versatile.

@werb42 I do have a Victorinox Trekker in my backpack and a Farmer Alox in my messenger bag. The Cadet is in my pants pocket because it's so small. I considered carrying bigger knives around, like the Cyber Tool L or the Ranger Grip, but those were just too bulky. The other three are enough for me.

@@BrokenCurtain Thats a pretty great collection there, the Farmer has been my EDC for 15 years now, also a big fan of the Hiker. A few years back I found a One Handed Trekker with a non-serrated blade collecting dust on a Snap-on truck, and purchased it simply because I'm still not sure this model officially existed. Kinda starting to see a pattern I guess, lol.

I prefer the Alox Cadet for my pocket carry. I also chose a Fieldmaster for my bag kit (very similar to the Huntsman). SAKs are fantastic bits of kit, and I can't recommend them enough.

I just want to thank you for all your excellent videos. I recently got back into SAK and picked up a pioneer X because they had it locally but I’ll be buying a compact and probably one with a saw after that. There’s so many I want to get haha, this could become a problem. Cheers for the US.

I always carry the Explorer. I know it might be a bit bulky for some people, but it put it in my jeans pocket and never seem to notice it. I've used every tool on this knife and have carried out many different tasks. The in-line phillips screwdriver is by far the best configuration. In my opinion, it's the most comprehensive SAK that is still small enough to be carried every day. Build quality is superb.

Same here! It fits perfectly in that coin/waych/fifth pocket in jeans and chinos. It shares that space with a small sanitizer bottle and stands upright. I feel naked without my explorer.

It’s so hard to pick favorites! Ultimately it comes down to what tools you’ve been using lately, and which ones you already carry. For example, I always go for the knives with pens because I don’t carry a dedicated pen, but for people who do carry a pen, this becomes much lower priority. On the other hand, I’m fine using my phone as a flashlight most of the time, so I don’t seek out the flashlight models. Let’s all just agree that Swiss Army Knives are fantastic =)

You can always pick your favorite (atleast the one with the tools you like) and buy plus scales for the pen, i have the huntman but doesnt come with pen, pin and small eye glass screwdriver, so bought them seperate to make it more urban friendly not just for outdoors

You got me sold on the Compact! I’ll definitely get the add-ons and utilize the improvised features you’ve shared. I’m giddy to cop everything very soon! I have the Classic SD (NCT) for daily personal use, and I bring the Swiss Tool X Plus that’s passed on to me by my father, everywhere I go. For me, less is more, but I’m definitely getting the Compact! 😁

Thank you for the great list! I've had a Swiss Champ for 30 years and it's my go-to toolkit every time I'm away from home - love it. For EDC I have the Swiss Card in my wallet and Mini Champ on my keys, but was not previously aware of the Manager which looks like a better streamlined option! My absolute number 1 for being in the great outdoors is the Alox Harvester. Agree scissors are usually vital but don't miss them too much when out in the countryside, and the knife, saw, pruning blade, in-line awl combo is fantastic. So many good choices. 🙂

A very well thought out list. I spend a lot of time outdoors especially in the woods so my favorite is the Rangergrip 78 followed by the Huntsman. The Huntsman has a better selection of tools than the Rangergrip, but larger blade and saw win out for me.
