Whitesnake are an English hard rock band formed in London in 1978. The group was originally put together as the backing band for singer David Coverdale, who had recently left Deep Purple. Though the band quickly developed into their own entity, Coverdale is the only constant member throughout their history.

Peak Whitesnake, accept no American substitutes, Sad news about Bernie Marsden, who seemed like a nice guy, and a good singer in his own right. It was around this time that the press were building up a big rivalry between Rainbow and Whitesnake, and Blackmore and Coverdale had a fight backstage after a Rainbow concert.

That lineup reminded me the most of mk3 Deep Purple. Listening to ready an willing LP reminded me of the burn LP or Stormbringer. After that lineup of whitesnake was over I was pretty much over with whitesnake. And then Coverdale had that operation on his throat and his voice was never the same.

Whitesnake wrote this song to honor blues legend BB King. Coincidentally (or not), blues legend Albert King has a song called Born Under A Bad Sign.

This is their fourth album, third if you don't count "Snakebite" as a full abum, it was more of an EP, with some of Coverdale's solo material added. To simplify the story, this classic Whitesnake lineup started to fall apart in '82, when Cozy Powell replaced Paice, and Marsden left. Then he got John Sykes for the following album (Slide It In) and Lord and Moody subsequently left shortly after the album was finished. Then after recording the famous 1987 album, the whole band was fired, and he hired the guys you see in the music videos.

If you want to know about Whitesnake andbthe ins and outs, read both the late Bernie Marsden's and Micky Moody's autobiographies. They're very honest and they tell what really happened. Micky Moody now sings with his wife Ali Maas, as Moody Maas. Great blues music and something that would sit well with the channel

Whitesnake were a great blues rock band until Coverdale sold out to the American dollar. The bassline from Neil Murray here is absolutely phenomenal 👏

That's a little harsh. Coming from an American (sorta, really a Texan) who loves Whitesnake and prefers the 70s version of the band, I'm not sure it was "the American dollar" that ruined the band. I think it was just the decade of the 80s. It ruined all rock music. Name one band that was anywhere near as good in 1989 as they were prior to 1980. I can't name one. Even bands that started in the early 80s were ruined. It didn't matter where they were from, they were done (figuratively or literally) by the end of the decade. What were the main reasons? Drugs / cocaine, the "excess" of the decade, MTV... etc. Money too, for sure. But, to say American money is to ignore that it was just where the money (biggest money) was. Even bands that didn't have a commercial bone in their collective body, such as maybe R.U.S.H. still faded significantly as the decade wore on.

@@colrhodes377 - Well, I attribute that to the greed and excess of the 80s. Did Coverdale get caught up in it? Yeah, but what band didn't? The band kept their original bluesy funk from Trouble through Saints & Sinners (5 albums). Their first "real" 80s album was "Slide It In", even though is was their 3rd album of the decade. Their sound and direction and roots didn't change until 1984 (when the first real personnel change happened). The music was still good. Their 1987 album is a quintessential 80s album with great music, but it was not based on their original bluesy sound. After that "Slip of the Tongue" was hollow. It still was better than a lot of other 80s crap, but didn't have the heart of their early stuff. I definitely feel like they didn't know what they had, but that's real life. People get sick of each other sometimes... egos, drugs, money, personalities. While their 80s music doesn't hold a candle to their first 5 albums, it was still premium 80s music. Slide It In is almost too raunchy and comes off as a Spinal Tap album. "Sex Farm" and "Big Bottom" could've easily snuck into the track listing. 1987 they just caught lightning in a bottle. Even Stevie Vai couldn't save Slip of the Tongue, though I still enjoy listening to it.

@pbltubetheoriginal6253 it's possible that Steve Vai made the album one dimensional. That's because Vandenberg didn't play, and his bluesier playing would have been a levelling weight
