I'm a public land hunter down in central Florida. People say Florida deer are small but I've seen pictures of 140, 150+ inch bucks from areas near me.

Im autistic so focusing on some of these punlic land things are hard..i am a fisherman at heart and atick n move is the tactic most times...i have patience like no other...but stepping into the bow hunting world has been so hard. I love the woods and have public land minutes from my home...i sit for hours and try to stalk the foot prints...i dont cre about a buck over a doe i just want the meat...i love and hate this new challenge in my life...keep the good info coming.

It's something how even in some remote area, the weekend warriors can be heard from a distance, lots of noise for two three days, then near silence for four days, then they come again, then leave, both public and private land areas. Best chance at mature buck is Tuesday thru Thursday

I hunt a “low pressure” state public area. I live minutes away and sometimes feel like I am managing my hunts. But, I am always reminded of why it is important to have multiple options when the over aggressive limited time, spent a lot of money, travelers or weekend warriors come in and be over aggressive. I can understand why, but it gets old when really good spots get burnt out quickly!

If I have the time I would like to try and hunt public land in my home state of West Virginia. I live in the northern panhandle so there isn’t much up here without driving a few hours south. I pray that I get that nice buck on the property around my Dad’s house 🏠 then I can go elsewhere so I don’t deplete the resource and make the neighboring land manager upset if I took two. But since I am still looking for my first archery 🏹 deer 🦌 let alone buck, I doubt that I have that problem. I also wouldn’t mind going into PA and Ohio for some public land hunts including the Wayne National Forest that you mentioned. I am more of a ground hunter but I did order a Tethrd ESS saddle kit and won a Phantom saddle at Average Jack Archery 🏹 teach and train event in central PA. So I can try both out. Thank you for this wealth of information that you so gladly share. 🏹🦌🌱🌳

@@garrettstraffon608 I live in north east Texas close to Arkansas. Lots of deer low population but the heat makes them big time night cruisers. Makes it hard. And the hogs run them off to and eat all of the natural browse. I wouldn’t want to hint there either way too cold for me

Hey Jeff. Great info on the ones I've watched. I heard you mention Wayne forest. Have you heard of Perry state forest. 4000 acres. It was coal mined years ago. Not many mature trees. Briars well everywhere. Can't get anywhere without walking through them. Some you cant. As it nears gun season more and more people are out. After gun its quiet again. 3 cornfields is all the ag surrounding the land. So heavy ag fields are out. I put in 6 miles today and found very little mature buck sign at all. It's been an ass kicker the past 3 years. Had a huge buck come through on the 14th at noon. Never seen on cam before. The ones I had on cam 2 weeks ago are gone. I definitely need some guidance. If you like to check the place out for a future hunt I'd love to show what I've learned and what I know. Hope to hear from you soon. Also there is walking and horse trails everywhere

Ok, public land hunting for whitetails. Honestly, only tried it a few times. No real success, pressure and poor set ups probably. One bright moment in my early years of hunting I took a nice twelve pointer from about 3 miles down in a local WMA with hunters all around me. A gun hunt. My buddy had to walk all the way out and drive to the WMA station to get the staff to drive in there and retrieve me and the buck. They took my buck and left me to walk out, and then drive to the check in station to get my deer. I live around lots of public land, land around the lake that is WMA, National Forest etc... I have hunted turkey and gotten way back from most of the pressure. Nice hikes! Considered deer hunting in those spots due to the higher quality of sign but really one thing stopped me from doing it. That one thing was basically how in the world was I going to get a nice buck out of there? Not the easiest terrain, lots of ups and downs. Take a nice deer 3 to 5 miles deep in there and man, heart attack city trying to get it out. Tried those carts to bring deer out on and buddy every deer in the forest hear u coming from miles. Absolutely no vehicle travel allowed, not even those moterrized bikes. So, only course I guess is to carry extra gear, sweat like crazy, if lucky enough to get a deer butcher it on the spot in the woods and haul it out 3 to 5 miles? Sounds good but really?!!! I mean I'm not being a lazy hunter but at 53-54 I'm not sure all that is worth it. Antlers are great but what really counts is meat in my freezer and not traveling 3 to 5 miles back to get it. When I was in my 20 to 30's I did it but common sense now says no thanks. Unless you can give me a more realistic way of getting that deer outta the boonies, no thanks. I'll leave that for the adventurous 20 to 30 year Olds and those adventure, fitness junkies. Still, I like your thoughts on public lands and hunting them, just at my age now common sense has to be realistically used.

I hunt primarily public land as I don't have access to many private properties. I feel that public land is just so much harder to hunt than private. Do these public land tips from the northern part of US where you hunt, still ring true for places like NW Missouri, where I hunt? Can I use the same strategies here? Thanks for the great videos.

Hey Jeff. My wife and I hunt public land in NE Texas. Because of a shoulder injury she has to shoot from a bipod with either crossbow or rifle. Naturally, she would have a really hard time engaging game while in a stand. Do you have any tips or suggestions pertaining to ground hunting without a blind set-up. Thank you.

Jeff I’m a big Ohio public land hunter and was wondering what your thoughts are about making mock scrapes like the ones you make all the time on your private lands. I’m not an “in & out” public land hunter. I usually hunt the same big acreage public land for the whole season. Would you place a vertical mock scrape on a large public land and hunt it at the appropriate times? And do you think this would be an effective hunt strategy for public lands?

I just had www.bigrocktrees.com/ plant over 700' of hybrid willow Shrubs on Father's day and they are all doing great!! You should check them out...lots of great options for cuttings and they are very helpful. I have been recommending them for at least 10 years... Have a great weekend!
