Thanks for making this video. Very informative and to the point. 90% of the time I use an ECHO 2511T with a 12" bar & Stihl yellow chain. Takes care of most TSI and trail clearing needs. My favorite tool for girdling is a cordless angle grinder with a chainsaw disk (aka carving disk). Low noise, very light to carry with 2 spare batteries, and no PPE needed except safety glasses.

Spot on. I’m a 60 year old forester and have done TSI for 38 years. Hands down I’ll carry a saw over a hatchet or machete. A saw is so much more versatile. Large culls are much easier to kill too. And vines, as you indicated, there is no comparison. Good video!

A lot of good information here. The details matter to those of us who do a lot of this work.

My favorite tool for this is Stihl’s MS120 cordless. It’s lightweight and I usually wear out before it needs charging.

I have to agree in using an arborist chainsaw for TSI. I use an Echo CS-271T top handle saw, also with a 12" bar. It is AMAZING as to the size of trees that I have cut down with this saw. And I have cleared a LOT OF GROUND in a short time in both cutting and in girdling. I tend to use Dr. Craig Harper's "cocktail" mix for my herbicide. 50% Triclopyr (Garlon 3A), 40% water, and 10% Amazapyr (Arsenal AC). You MUST mix in the order as shown or else it will gel.

Agreed. I have the same saw and I love it. It’s a little quirky if you throw a chain compared to a higher end arborist saw. Also. The fuel runs out almost at the exact same time as my bar oil. Still working on my perfect pack set up. Still like the hatchet for my high stem count areas.

You mentioned putting your squirt bottle in a holster. What kind of holster do you use for your squirt bottle? I’ve been trying to find a leather one with no luck.

Depending on the bottle you use you may need to have one custom made. That's what we did.

I use a half gallon milk jug. I cut a quarter section off the top leaving the handle INTACT. I then clip a carabiner around the handle and on my belt loop. Works perfect.

Just use a dump pouch like I do. If you saddle hunt you know what a dump pouch is.

Look up the Dr. Craig Harper cocktail

@@chrisnoll-xj1ts Yup! Craig Harper cocktail: Triclopyr (Garlon 3A) @ 50% Water @ 40% Imazapyr (Arsenal AC) @ 10% ** MUST BE MIXED IN THAT ORDER TO PREVENT GELLING**
