i was a guest on the big buck theory @IzaakYoung from VT runs it and talks about northern hunting and big woods. growing up In NH then living in idaho hunting there for years i love this conversation whitetails can be so easy to hunt in some parts of the country but in the northeast it is way harder to kill a big whitetail than a mule deer gun hunting in my opinion but that being said mule deer late season big bucks can be easy but mostly draws, bu tin the eastmons journal old days hutning winter ranges they picked which 200 inch buck they wanted and hand picked, obv we dont do that anymore. almost nothing is harder than bow hunting high country mule deer. i will say a big mule deer is harder than whitetails but mule deer in general are easier but im biased haha love both with low deer numbers and knowing how hard it is with low density, in the northeast you could go weeks without seeing a buck let alone a deer, and out west in idaho i could go glass with confidence seeing 20-100 deer any day even if you dont get a stalk you can at least see them

I grew up hunting in western VA. I moved out to Colorado when i was 22 and now Ive just moved back to Appalachia. I loved this podcast because it seems a lot of guys who grow up in the west don’t respect whitetail hunting at all. They think its 10x easier and that you can just kill deer all day long. But this guy gets it, deer are deer. Hunting a whitetail in the Allegheny mountains of Virginia is just as arduous as hunting a Muley on the front range in Colorado. I have a friend in Colorado who just got into hunting about a year ago, he’s hunted elk once and turkeys a few times all with his bow he is as green as green is in hunting. The way he talks about hunting for whitetail is such a caricature of eastern hunting. He reckons he’ll come visit me and we’ll just elmer fudd out into the woods and blammm. Dead deer😂 I’m in east TN now so he’s in for a rude awakening and I cant WAIT. Anyways great podcast gentlemen!
