canoed this river in the army cadets program in 2011 also. Spent 18 days total in the Algonquin/ Petawawa area hiking, biking, and canoeing. Over 230 KM combined of everything, best summer I ever had

That looks like so much fun! Great job both of you! Pro Tip: When hitting rapids in a canoe, one of the most important things to do is get off of your rear and onto your knees, in front of the seats. This lowers your center of gravity a lot, and you will stay out of the water more :)

I like the high five with the paddles at the end. Anyways, I will be canoeing again in August. I haven't done this in 30 years.

Just the awesomest video. I love the part from 4:20 on where you don't stand a chance of coming out of it but keep charging right to the bitter end!

Sick video. Really nice white water. I'm getting into some more aggressive paddling. Right now we paddle with a group called Float Fisherman so it's more family oriented.

Nice! Although I have to admit the waters that flip and / or swamp you canoe aren't waters that I would be paddling around in a canoe. At least not without serious supervision ;-) Looks like fun though.

Wow crazy dude. You almost died towards the end I'm sure it was totally worth it. If one of your canoes was hung up sideways and pooling with water you'd a been screwed. I wanna go with you now this shit is fun and adrenaline fueled. Please kneel down next time you may have made it dry well kinda.

I love this. It pumps me up for a trip down the pet. I saw a lot of portages along the way on the map. Can flat water paddlers safely go down the Petawawa, using the portages along the way, or is it too rough? We have recreational kayaks that we trip with.

nice! my band has a song "down the river" and I was looking for some footage to get a KZbin video. The clips are perfect, and believe it or not, the techno soundtrack uses the same chords and many of the same progressions as our psychedelic folk tune. I'll post it here when she's done and credit this youtube channel as source footage.

We'reAllMadHere nice shot at us brother but here in Georgia and North Carolina as well as Tennessee we have far more dangerous challenging white water rivers to paddle with out tandem and solo canoes.

+The Factualist Ya ok, maybe compared to the Petawawa. But come up for the spring flood in Quebec and let me know what you think of that. Look into the Magpie, Misitassibi, Valin or Broadback rivers. The last true wild rivers of the continent are in Canada, no offence, just the truth.

Just be careful of a few of the stretches... you should get out an walk most of the rapids first (except the ones at five mile rapids... those ones are pretty tame). In early spring Rollaway can be pretty narly. Even with this video in July, it looked like the water was still very high (that's the one where they sunk the boat!). Make sure you have good maps and don't even think about doing the bottom end of Cedar... the top end is easy enough but if you miss the last take out you can die.

Lol - sick vid, we did the section from travers to McManus that same summer. Last year tried to do the section in your vid but the water levels were way to low. Ended up being one of the worse trips ever. I'm trying to find a group to do the whole river this summer. Send me an email if you can help out. Thanks.

This is a great Canadian river, but this is not good paddling. They congratulate themselves on their sloppy paddling technique. As old school Pennsylvanians ran this scenic river in 1986 without mishaps. High and dry. Your soundtrack belies your inappropriate behavior. Hope you get to improve with age. But I'm not getting my hopes up.

I really love Petawawa river. I went down this river this summer. Lots of fun to scout and paddle down the river. I agree with you that the woman in the front was not paddling well for sure. She also should be kneeling to keep the boat stable. Some line they ran down was not the best. But you didn't see the person in the stern clearly, so it's hard to say they were sloppy paddlers. They should need more professional training and practice for sure, but I think everyone was once a beginner paddler and we should give more encouragement.
